About this Cook
I am a full-time student at present, studying to be a Library Tech. I love to read, write, and learn interesting and little-known facts. I also love music. I have been playing the violin since I was 9 years old, and I also play the viola and piano. I used to be a Classical snob, but for the last couple of years I have began to branch out, and now I enjoy playing Celtic-style music and jazz. Library service is not my dream job, but I think I'll be content for a few years. What I really would like to do is be a travel writer/expert, like Rick Steves, only not dorky! Forget the Euro tour! I am much more interested in seeing Asia and Africa. The main obstacle in the way of my dreams is that I don't have enough money just yet to even go to the nearest city! College is expensive!
My favorite things to cook
I love to try new things to cook, but my favorite things to cook are spicy curries and cookies.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We have no traditions. My family is too hectic and fickle for tradition!
My cooking triumphs
This Thanksgiving I made a picture-perfect turkey! It was delicious.
My cooking tragedies
So many tragedies, so little time! Just kidding. I've had a few fiascoes, but not very memorable ones. The most memorable was a few years ago, I tried to make some fudge as Christmas presents for my friends. I had never made fudge before, so it was my first try. Naturally, being me, I didn't follow the directions to the letter. The result was a mess! It was basically just sugar soup; it never solidified, even after freezing overnight! I know not to ever do that again!

Swedish Ground Almond Spritz Cookies
These cookies absolutely do not work. The dough is way too soft to press, even with 1 cup extra flour. They spread into a shapeless puddle when you try to cook them. The only positive thing about this recipe is the smell.

Spritz Orange Crisps
These are pretty good. I had never made spritz cookies before, and when I found my grandmother's old cookie press sitting in the kitchen cabinet, unused, I decided to give it a try. I baked the first batch for 10 minutes--they burned to a crisp! So I reduced the cooking time to about 6 minutes, and they turned out a nice, barely golden brown. Since I had a bit of trouble adapting to the press, most of my cookies were not pretty enough to save for the Christmas platter, but my family plans to eat them anyway. I doubled the amount of orange juice and zest and used butter-flavored crisco. You can really taste the orange. Thanks for sharing.

Spicy Garlic Lime Chicken
This recipe was okay, but way too garlicky! And I'm a garlic lover! Also, there wasn't enough sauce. Overall, I think I will keep this recipe but tone it down a little, maybe tinker with the sauce a little to make more. This is a decent basic recipe.
