Herbed Pork and Apples

Reviewed: Aug. 19, 2004
I made this for my family with a 4lb pork loin. I just changed the time it was cooked to around 1.5hrs. The pork turned out nice and juicy, and the apples and onions were delicious. I added a little extra brown sugar to the apples, and the taste reminded me a bit of cranberry sauce. They gave a nice tartness to the the sweetness of the yummy gravy and the meat. I will definately make this recipe again!

Best Bread Machine Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 19, 2004
I used my bread machine for the first time making this bread, and it turned out perfect! Very tasty white bread with a smooth texture. I have already made this bread twice since the first time a few days ago, and am sure that it will be made time and again!

Slow-Cooker Barbecue Ribs

This turned out very tasty, and I too substituted one cup ketchup with one cup bbq sauce. It was tender and delicious. My family really liked the ribs, and I'll definately make this recipe again!

Baked Ziti I

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2004
Wow! I can't even begin to describe how good this recipe is. I must admit that I added a few other ingredients to it, a green bell pepper, sun dried tomatoes, basil, onion and garlic powder as well as an extra cup of mozzarella cheese. This was so good my husband and step-daughters loved it. I will definately be making this in the future! Especially since it is so easy to prepare. Thanks Colleen!

Bacon Wrapped Chicken

Reviewed: Sep. 12, 2004
This recipe was so delicious. I doubled the recipe, and the little bit we had of leftovers was gone the next day! I didn't have a problem with the bacon being non-crispy, I thought that it was fine the way it was, and it really added to the flavor of the whole meal. The cream cheese and chives in the middle was just a wonderful taste and texture to add to the tenderness of the chicken. I made this with mashed potatoes, and green beans, and the cream of chicken mixture that was cooked over the chicken made a great gravy for the potatoes, and I think it would be wonderful served over rice as well. This meal was absolutely wonderful, and I can't wait to make it again!

Onion, Garlic, Cheese Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 12, 2004
This bread was very flavorful, I used onion powder instead of the flakes, and just topped the bread with a little of the powder after the last stir down. Everyone really enjoyed it, but I give it four stars because setting my bread machine on light crust resulted in a shorter bake time, and the inside was just a little doughy in patches. But it was still a very good recipe and I will definately make it again, but with a medium crust setting so that it gets fully cooked.

American Lasagna

Reviewed: Sep. 12, 2004
This was a delightful lasagna. I have been searching for a recipe for lasagna for a long time, and I had come across several, but this looked the best out of all of them, and it was very simple. I substituted cottage cheese for the ricotta, and I added a red bell pepper and sun dried tomatoes to the sauce mixture. I also added about 2 more cups of mozzarella cheese to the layers. I made it the night before, and let it refridgerate overnight as per suggestion of Rosemary, and letting all the flavors mingle overnight made this recipe truly delicious. I'll definately make this one again!

Spinach Stuffed Chicken Breast

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2004
I thought that this recipe is just okay. I thought that the chicken was a little tasteless. It was really missing something, a nice sauce to cook in and put over the chicken after cooking. It would have really helped to improve the taste I think. I thought that the stuffing was also just okay. All and all I don't think that I would make this recipe again, although it was interesting to try.

Easy Slow Cooker Ham

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2011
Wow! I made this yesterday with an 8lb fully cooked spiral cut ham. A little bit of the ham stuck out of the cider in the crock pot, so every so often I would open it up and baste that section with the juices. I only cooked for about 3.5 hours on low and then turned the crock pot to warm for the next 3 hours. It came out perfect. The whole ham was so moist and flavorful. My husband absolutely raved about this ham, and my step daughter and her husband really loved it too! I couldn't believe just how tender and moist the ham was and there was flavor all the way to the bone. I didn't use whole or ground cloves, or the ginger because I didn't have them on hand. I did use a sprinkle of allspice, with the nutmeg and the Cinnamon. I used the brown sugar and the maple syrup as specified, but it took a whole jug of apple cider to nearly cover the ham because of the size of my crock pot. I will be making this ham again and again for sure.

Newport Clam Chowder

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2012
Oh my gosh! I have never made clam chowder before, and I've never had Newport style. My husband and I LOVED this recipe, and LOVED the thinner consistency. I didn't have any fresh clams so I just got the canned ones. I used 6 6.5oz cans chopped clams in their own juice, and 6 8oz jars of clam juice. It was amazing! Everything else was per recipe instructions, except I didn't have any dill. I topped it with a pat of butter, a little salt and pepper, and some old bay as another reviewer recommended.
