Maria's Pepper Steak

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2005
Very good! I used round steak one each of a green pepper, red pepper, orange pepper, and yellow pepper. Ended up being really pretty. Everyone liked it. I think next time I'll try the sauce with chicken, broccoli, mushrooms, and water chestnuts. Thanks!

I added 3 tbs sour cream, 1 tsp vanilla, and approximately 1 tsp cinnamon. Excellent! Thanks!

Bacon Wrapped Stuffed Mushrooms

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2005
Pretty tasty with garlic and jack cheese additions. I found these a real pain to put together, though. Definitely not the 10 minutes suggested in the prep time. I also cooked the bacon slightly before wrapping the shrooms and found that they still needed approximately 30 minutes in the oven before the bacon crisped up. I'll keep playing with this one to suit my needs. Thanks for a solid start. :)

Frosted Banana Bars

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2005
2 stars don't mean I didn't enjoy...it just wasn't something outstanding. Pretty much, banana bread with icing. I should have picked up on that merely from the ingredients...I just had some pretty high hopes based on all the reviews. I'm sure I'll make it again but it won't be something made regularly. Thanks. :)

Steamed Tuna Fish

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2005
Very good sauce. The only person in my family who wouldn't eat it is my 7-yr old. Everyone else really liked it. Thanks for a great alternative for our fish!

Easy Key Lime Pie I

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2005
Very good. Ingredients are the key (no pun intended). Don't get lazy with the limes...squeeze the key limes rather than store bought juice.

Extremely good. Can't wait for the cold nights when this will really hit the spot! Was a great meal for a stormy Saturday afternoon.

Very tasty. Our kids loved it. My husband and I were a little less enthusiastic but all in all a success. Thanks for something quick and easy!

Chicken Pot Pie IV

Really great base recipe. I added some things for our family's personal taste...frozen peas, frozen corn, and frozen shredded potatoes. It was really very good.

Glazed Apple Cream Pie

Reviewed: Aug. 31, 2005
Very good! The only thing we thought could improve it would be to use a fruit more associated with creams...peaches, strawberries, or blueberries for example. The apples were excellent...just not quite what you'd expect with that great cream. We also thought the glaze was very good but not necessary. Thanks!

Lush Pie

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2005
Pretty non-descript the first time I made it. The next time I tried it with the following variations and really liked it much better: 1) Crush oreos for the crust instead of the pecan cookies. 2) Instead of granulated sugar mix the 8 oz cream cheese with 1/2 c butter (no substitution), 1 tsp vanilla, and 1-1.5 c powdered sugar. 3) Top pudding with 1/4 c mini chocolate chips.

Crawfish Etouffee II

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2005
Very disappointing. I knew it would be when I saw there was no roux and no seasoning...how can this be considered a "true cajun recipe"?????? I will quit looking for a cajun shortcut and stick with what I know to be good.

Excellent. I flatten a little and bake 12 minutes only because I like them a tad crispier.

Calico Squash Casserole

Great as a "side" for any get together. It's pretty rich so I generally serve with a fairly plain meat...such as grilled chicken. Sliced garden tomatoes complete the meal and everyone is thrilled.

Mom's Apple Pie I

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2005
This is a great pie! Rave reviews at Thanksgiving dinner. My husband actually said it was better than "mom's". Thanks! The only thing I did differently than recipe was to put a dash of whiskey in some melted butter and brush the top of the pie...then sprinkled with a touch of cinnamon and sugar...just to crisp up the crust. I did this when there was only about 10 minutes left to bake.

Gramma's Apple Bread Pudding

Reviewed: Jun. 30, 2005
Absolutely fabulous. Sometimes I will vary just a tiny bit by using brandy rather than vanilla...but it isn't necessary...just a different taste occasionally. I take this (by request...or demand?) to our church potluck dinners and never bring any home. I have also found that the best way to cook this is in cast iron...never, ever the slightest bit soggy. I have found the quantity of sauce is too much for our taste and normally go by feel rather than using all of it. Thanks for the recipe!
