Traditional Macaroni and Cheese

Reviewed: Jul. 12, 2011
My Mac and cheese of choice now. A permanent in my books. I hate the egg-based ones as well, and was looking for a non-velveeta recipe. This one is perfect. I used skim milk instead of water, and topped it with Gruyere cheese. Thank you Carnation!!

Grilled Fish Tacos with Chipotle-Lime Dressing

Reviewed: Jul. 19, 2009
My husband raved about it. For the fish, I sub'd the chili powder for cayenne pepper (all i had), but kept everything else same. The lime dressing I liked, but omitted the chipotle. My husband ate it so fast, I barely had time to scoop up enough for one taco before he finished both of our portions!! lol.. oh, well, that means it was good!! :)

Lemon Blueberry Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2009
delicious. I really enjoyed this one, and it's a wonderful use of blueberries! Mine came out not-too-sweet, and pound cake-like. Thanks for sharing!

Seasoned Turkey Burgers

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2009
I had planned on making the recipe exactly as written, but turned out that my onion packet was expired! So I sub'd 1/4 tsp onion powder and 1/2 small sweet onion chopped, and it came out perfect. It made me look like a hero! My husband loved it, and asked for it weekly. I cooked it on the stove, and covered it for the last 6 minutes or so. Thanks!!

Glazed Chicken Wings

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2009
Just had it right out of the oven, and it tastes fantastic. I followed the advice of other reviewers : seasoned the chicken with lemon-pepper and garlic powder (no additional salt needed!) and used low-sodium soy sauce. Kept everything else the same, and had enough sauce to coat 25 wings/drummets, with leftover sauce to dump over it. I pre-baked the chicken with just seasoning on it for 20 minutes at 400, dumped out the juices, and then dunked each piece into a large bowl with the sauce and returned it to the same foil lined casserole dish. (I coated the foil with olive oil, like another reviewer suggested). Leftover sauce went right on top. Baked another 25 minutes for crispy gooey-goodness. Thanks to everyone for all the great suggestions!!

Great recipe. Added apples and ginger ale instead of club soda, kept everything else the same. Thanks!

The Best Lemon Bars

Reviewed: Sep. 21, 2008
Good taste, at just below 1/2 cup lemon juice ( 2 lemons). Added the 1/4 tsp of salt another reviewer suggested. Made them into little cupcake tins, but unfortunately they stick to the paper. Otherwise, the crust and filling are very flavorful. Next time I will double the amount of filling though, and try the bars.

Toffee Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2008
Delicious. I chose this cookie because my husband requested a toffee cookie. OMG, it's delicious! He could barely speak between mouthfuls of fresh-baked cookies & a glass of milk. I followed the instructions as is, but I used heath bar chunks instead of almond brickle. It produced 30 small-medium sized chewy cookes, baked at exactly 9 minutes. I think it is my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe too, since I'm not a huge toffee fan. Thanks for the recipe, Aimee!

Playgroup Granola Bars

Reviewed: Jul. 1, 2008
Great starter recipe! I used whole wheat flour, apple chips (coarsely hand crushed), and chocolate chips. DIVINE! And, full of the fiber that I'm looking for. I've never been a fan of store bought granola bars before because they always seemed so full of artificial ingredients. This is all natural, and very easy to make organic! I followed the measurements exactly as the recipe described, and it came out perfect. Thanks for the post!!

Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2008
Definitely a good cookie, but I may still try a few other recipes to find "the best". Mine also came out cakey, and hardly spread at all, which I didn't really mind. They looked like little muffin tops. Nice taste, not too sweet. Baked at 350 for 13 minutes. Thanks for the recipe, and everyone else for the reviews. Very helpful.

Lemon Yogurt Muffins

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2008
I was a bit disappointed in this one. It smelled wonderful while baking, but came out crispy on the outside, and rather bland and dry on the inside. I sub'd confectioner sugar instead of regular sugar for the topping/glaze, and that was probably my favorite part of the muffin. Followed the rest of the instructions. The cook time is off, like others mentioned- mine was done in 18 minutes. Thanks to everyone who told me the batter would be thick! I would have thought that I would have forgotten a wet ingredient.

Baked Teriyaki Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2008
A good taste and flavor. Great sauce to go with rice! My husband loved the leftovers, and actually said it tasted more like Chicken adobo from his childhood, so he calls it by that. I did half white and brown sugar as rec'd, next time I will try bbq'ing this. I have a phobia with this recipe, however, since my oven smoked while baking this at 425 degrees, and lit all my smoke alarms! Still the dish remained in tact, and I'll just have to get someone to fix my oven! Thanks.

Brown Sugar Meatloaf

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2008
i guess it's already been said... good basic meatloaf! I will try it next time with bbq sauce instead of ketchup for the extra flavor. Real chopped onions and worchestire sauce are a must in my opinion. Also cut back on the milk. We had it with just plain bread and mayo... a simple, delicious combo!

Glazed Lemon Supreme Pound Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2008
Good recipe. I was looking for that dense pound cake texture too, but mine was a little bit softer than I expected. I forgot to get lemon extract, so i used lemon juice into the batter as one reviewer mentioned, and i think i overdid the juice a bit, because it turned out extra-lemony. VERY good with a glass of milk, or a scoop of vanilla ice cream. I'll probably still sub lemon juice in the batter next time, (what's a lemon pound cake without real lemon?) but I'll use less juice, and it should be perfect. Definitely sprinkle it with additional confectioner's sugar after the glaze and cake have fully dried, for a nice immediate effect, but it will dissolve into the glaze after a day. It's tastes better the next day too.

Fried Pork Chop

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2008
Very good, but with changes. I used Italian bread crumbs, seasoning salt, garlic powder and pepper. Fried with oil and 1 tbsp of butter. Used thin boneless pork cuts, and it came out perfect.

Mouse's Macaroni and Cheese

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2008
I did not use the bread crumbs or the mustard. It came out good, my husband liked it, but it did not have the creaminess I was looking for. Tasted good as leftovers, but the sauce looked broken. I'll be looking to see if I can improve upon the texture.

BBQ Pork for Sandwiches

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2008
Great! Followed the advice of others, and used Sweet Baby Ray's bbq sauce for the first time. I set the pork and beef stock on high for 5 hours, pulled the 2-lb pork roast apart with a fork, drained the beef stock, and dumped the bbq sauce in. Left in the crockpot on high for another hour. It was tender and delicious. Even better the next day. Served on toasted Kaiser rolls. Thanks for the recipe!

Mrs. Sigg's Snickerdoodles

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2007
Great cookie. I followed the comments by other reviewers and came up with a great cookie. Key points that helped me: baked 8 minutes, removed from pan almost immediately. Keep dough in the fridge, it really does make a better formed cookie. Used parchment paper, and the cinnamon-sugar baggie technique. Freezing the remaining batter in cinnamon balls to bake on a rainy day. All great ideas, you guys are great!! Thanks, i'll be sharing the cookies with my husband's co-workers.

Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2007
Delicious- i think i would like it with or without chocolate chips. Very moist. I cut the nutmeg to 2 tsp, as suggested by many others, and added 1 tsp cloves. My husband kept asking for cream cheese frosting, because it's more cake-like than bread, but still tastes great. Made 3 loaves for me.

Pumpkin Spice Cake with Cinnamon Cream Cheese Frosting

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2007
We loved it! I made a pan for my husband and for my co-workers. My husband cleaned his out (not a trace left), and didn't even notice that there was pumpkin it (he doesn't like pumpkin usually). I followed the instructions, but added chopped walnuts into the cake batter, and sprinkled more over the iced cake. I cheated and used pre-made cream cheese icing, and added the cinnamon, as suggested by others. Delish! Thanks for sharing the recipe.
