About this Cook
I'm 31 years old and I've been married for 6 years. I have a 14 year old step-son who stays with us every other weekend. I work full-time and I have a very long commute, so I don't cook very often during the week. I enjoy cooking, so I try to find the time on the weekends. My other favorite hobby is reading. I love curling up on the couch with a good book.
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook and eat almost anything, but my husband is a very picky eater. That makes things a little difficult. I try to adjust recipes as much as I can to suit both of our tastes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Currently I don't have any family traditions, but I look forward to having children one day and creating some. Growing up, my grandmother would make a huge Southern lunch every Sunday. It was like Thanksgiving every week. I want to make memories like that for my children.
My cooking triumphs
I'm happy anytime I get compliments from my husband, step-son, family or co-workers.
My cooking tragedies
My mom makes a strawberry cake that is my dad's favorite dessert. I have attempted to make the recipe many times and it always ends up in the trash. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. The top and edges always get brown and rubbery while the inside is gooey and uncooked. I'll figure it out one day.

Cranberry Sauce
My family always has canned cranberry sauce with Thanksgiving dinner. It's a tradition, so we still had the canned version, but I wanted to make homemade sauce. All the comments I received were positive. I followed the recipe exactly and will definitely make it again.

Grandma's Corn Bread Dressing
My granny is very picky about dressing. Normally we purchase dressing from a restaurant on Thanksgiving, but I decided to make it this year. I followed the directions exactly except I had chicken broth rather than chicken stock. For cornbread I used the recipe on the back of a bag of cornmeal. I thought the recipe was perfect. I wouldn't change a thing. Even granny approved.

S'mores Crumb Bars
I made the recipe as written and it didn't work for me. There's not enough of the graham cracker crumb to cover the bottom of the dish. Plus the recipe says "Remove from the oven and immediately press top firmly with spatula." That was a huge mistake. Everything stuck to the spatula and the chocolate and marshmallow turned into a big mess. I took them to a friend's house. Everyone tried them, but no one said they were good. I'll stick to making my indoor smores under the broiler.
