Swiss Chard with Garbanzo Beans and Fresh Tomatoes

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2013
I added extra garlic and used yellow onion because I didn't have shallots and green onions. I, too, used Fire Roasted Tomatoes with Garlic and I thought to add a few tablespoons of white wine. Thank you for the blend of garbanzos and chard! It was great!

Ciabatta Bread

Reviewed: May 22, 2012
I was troubled by the liquidity of this dough, but chose to wait it out and see. It tastes good, but it's not pretty and didn't rise nearly as much as it should have, in my opinion. It's edible and usable for the sandwiches, but I'll keep looking for a better one.

Hurry-Up Ham Carbonara

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2012
I used butter instead of margarine, one egg instead of 2 egg whites; added garlic, mushrooms, and peas. I also realized that I didn't have enough ham leftover so I cooked 5 slices of bacon and used 1 T of the grease instead of oil. I really liked this.

Pork Roast with Thyme

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2011
It was moist, but the vinegar was overpowering and made the kids growl at me.

Simple Whole Wheat Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 11, 2011
Wish I could add to the 5-star rating, but I can't. While the flavor was fine the second rising wasn't. It wouldn't rise any higher after the punch-down than 1/2 an inch and certainly didn't rise any higher in the oven. I tried twice. Moving on.

French Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2011
I assume this recipe was a 5 before I followed Tony Kollman's recommendations and added the 1 TBS of butter and an additional 1/2 tsp of salt. This was my first ever handmade loaf of bread. It was excellent!

Roasted Chicken with Risotto and Caramelized Onions

Reviewed: May 18, 2010
The first few bites were great, but by the time I got to the middle of my portion it was boring. It makes for nothing but edible, but not tasty, leftovers. Leftovers sustain us. I enjoyed the onions and balsamic together.

Laura's Unbelievable Chicken and Pasta

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2010
I, too, altered it after reading reviews. I used what I had on hand. . .chives cream cheese, added basil and garlic to broth and I cooked the pasta in the broth rather than have another pot to wash. I used half the pasta called for because what some say is 6-servings it's really more like 10 for us. I stirred in about 1/2 cup of parmesan cheese. I gave 5 stars for helping me figure out what to do with the chicken and random stuff in my fridge!

This really is tasty. I left out the jalapeno and bell pepper and rinsed the beans.

Restaurant-Style Buffalo Chicken Wings

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2010
Used Cholula brand hot sauce. Breaded, baked at 400 for 40 min, turning once. Browned beautifully! Then I tossed the wings in the sauce and baked them another 5-10 minutes. They're gorgeous and taste wonderful!! Thanks, Kelly!

Bacon Wrapped Bratwurst

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2010
This was so good! I served it up with pan-grilled red potatoes and broccoli. I dipped every few bites in some Dijon mustard. I left out the cayenne and used black pepper instead.

Light and Fluffy Spinach Quiche

Added sauteed onion, thawed and drained spinach, 1/4 tsp salt, half feta/cheddar, one extra egg and plain yogurt. I did not cover. It WAS fluffy and so tasty.

Didn't smell like fajitas. That turned us off. They were tender enough.

Cream of Tomato Soup with Pesto

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2009
I used vegetable broth instead of chicken, added about 1/4C parmesan cheese to the pot, more like a 1/4C or so of basil pesto and coarsely crushed black pepper. It was pretty runny for a tomato soup, so I added 1TB of cornstarch mixed with 1TB of water to thicken it up. Pretty good.

D's Famous Salsa

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2009
I didn't have green chiles so I used a whole jalapeno, half seeded. I love cilantro so added 1/2 cup. I also added a tsp of chili powder because it was definitely missing something without it. We liked it at this point, but my teenage son said he thought it still needed Hatch's diced tomatoes and chiles, so I added a heaping TBS of that. It was really good even before we doctored it to our tastes. Thanks!

Chicken Fettuccini Alfredo

It was edible but not good at all. The colby-jack is what ruined it, I'm convinced.

Pasta Carbonara

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2009
It was edible. I don't cook boxed foods and this definitely tasted like it could have been one. The 11 yo was disgusted by it. I finally had to whisk the cream cheese to a smooth texture. It was a bust.
