About this Cook
I'm finally in the position to start cooking interesting things. My husband likes to cook also and we enjoy trying new recipes. I love the Taste of Home books and use many recipes out of them. I'm also getting into freezing and a little canning (easy things). I'm also a crafter, meaning, I am into many types of crafts, cross stitch, crochet, painting and soon scroll saw. We are looking forward to retirement in a few years and are positioning ourselves to hopefully make our hobbies into some additional income in the "golden" years.
My favorite things to cook
Wow, don't know as I have any particular favorite things to cook. Things "I" don't cook are peas. I know they are a vegetable but have never been able to eat, smell or cook them. Outside of that am always trying something different.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Hmmmm guess there are no family traditions any more. When my parents were alive it used to be a Thanksgiving tradition to have pheasant, I did not know for a long time that turkey was usually the meat of choice. Also Mom always made the best chicken salad sandwiches for our Christmas eve gatherings. But as far as our own tradition I guess eating is what it is now.
My cooking triumphs
Years and years ago I attempted cream puffs....and much to my surprise they were very good. Although I have never made them again!! Also tried my hand at bagels, now that was an experience and again they came out great. But haven't done them again either.
My cooking tragedies
The funniest thing I ever did was trying to make crabapple jelly. We had a crabapple tree in our yard so I gathered them, followed the recipe for preparation, got cute little jars, etc. The jelly was beautiful, clear, really pretty in the fancy little jars....BUT when we opened one to try this pretty jelly, the knife just bounced off of it....hehehe Couldn't get it out of the jars nor could we get enough out to even taste it. No clue as to what went wrong, but then again I was only about 20 something at the time and hadn't done anything like that before. I still laugh about it today as I did then.
