About this Cook
I am a stay at home mother and writer. I am married to Billy Jack; the most handsome, loving, hysterical, most wonderful father for over 19 years. We share a beautiful, talented, kind, well rounded 9 year old daughter, Gracie. I am the oldest and only daughter of Marty & Evelyn Lephew. I have a younger brother Mark who is an amazing guitar player. Last but not least, we have adorable Cupcake the Chihuahua! I write children's books, I have a passion for poetry. Our family is addicted to fishing!! My Gracie caught her first bass at 2! I have lived in 16 states growing up, so I have had a vast variety of cooking methods, and well; just different foods!!
My favorite things to cook
I love using my crock pot! Roasts, soups, etc. I enjoy making a good meat loaf (although mine is not a loaf), Salisbury steak, pasta, casseroles, I enjoy cooking everything except for a good steak; I leave that to my husband! I get lost in baking cakes, cupcakes, cookies, pies and well if you can put it in the oven....I'm all over it!!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother is a "country" cook, Daddy is a "anything that will be original" cook. My late mother in law was a "southern" cook. One thing that I have to say is tradition is using herbs, and most importantly to just love what you're cooking. If you're not in the mood to cook....don't! It takes away from the result. When my family cooks we talk, tell stories, laugh, and we love who we are cooking for, which in turn gives a great meal. I have to mention that the most important and favorite family tradition is to pray before we eat. I've even been known to pray while I was cooking!!
My cooking triumphs
Holiday ham, coleslaw, stuffed pork chops, vegetable beef soup.
My cooking tragedies
T-bone steak!! It doesn't matter how hard I try, my steak ends up looking like a jacked up pork chop!!! I think a little part of this is due to my husband being "THE" best steak man....EVER!! When we have steaks; my hubby cuts my steak, makes my potatoes with cheese, sour cream, butter, chives, then he makes my salad and wait for it....serves it to me!!!! So all in all I'm happy that I can't do a steak!!
