East Indian Split Pea Pilaf

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2011
This was quite good and made a good side for roast chicken.

Foolproof Chocolate Fudge

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2011
I've made this before, but had lost my recipe and forgot about it. I chilled these in silicone baking cups and they popped right out - no wax paper required. I poured out half the recipe to have no nuts and then stirred nuts into the remaining fudge before pouring out into the cups. I find this rather rich, but everyone always gobbles this up.

Chicken Avocado Pizza

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2010
Made my own dough for crusts. I don't like cilantro so I didn't use it. I left out the cayenne since we were sharing with my son, but I think it could have used it. My son wouldn't eat it (likely because of the green colour) but my husband and I thought it was okay.

Coconut Orange Cupcakes

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2010
Based on other reviewers, I used fresh squeezed orange juice with pulp and some zest, and left out the mandarin orange segments. I also added coconut to the batter. Since these were for a family birthday get-together, I piped them with buttercream frosting instead of the coconut topping in the recipe (which is why I put the coconut in the batter). Everyone raved about the flavour.

White Bean Chicken Chili

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2010
I used fresh tomatoes, tomatillos, chillies, and corn (from our CSA box). I didn't have coriander seed. We enjoyed this with flat bread.

Quinoa Pudding

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2010
I used almond milk instead of whole milk. It didn't thicken so I stirred in an egg yolk and that did the trick. Nice flavour. A good cool weather breakfast.

Banana Oatmeal Cookies I

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2010
I prefer to use brown sugar instead of white. These were really good. I made some for my husband to take to work and told him to call them banana bread cookies. He took more than 2 dozen and brought none home.

Sweet Potato Bread I

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2010
This was surprisingly light considering it's a potato bread. I prefer brown sugar in my baking and I decreased the amount slightly since I was concerned it would be too sweet. It was really good. I made it again and took the advice of another reviewer and used orange juice instead of water and that was good, too.

Apple Pumpkin Muffins

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2010
Very good and moist. I didn't have pumpkin pie spice so I used cinnamon and nutmeg.

Fried Cabbage with Bacon, Onion, and Garlic

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2010
We got cabbages in our CSA box and after making coleslaw I didn't know what to do with it. This was great. I didn't have onion or garlic powder, but I didn't think it needed it with actual garlic and onion in the recipe. Went great with pork chops.

Pesto Quinoa

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2010
Easy to make and tasty. I used homemade pesto and added sliced green onions, too.

Cheesy Sausage Loaf

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2010
This turned out really well. I used cheddar (which is what I had on hand), and cooked minced garlic and onion with the sausage instead of adding garlic powder. It reheated well the next day, too.

Garlic Scape Pesto

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2009
I agree that it has a different texture than basil pesto. It was good on pasta and I also mixed a little into some chicken salad. It kept covered in the fridge for several days.

Roasted Brussels Sprouts

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2009
I got brussels sprouts in my CSA box. I hate brussels sprouts, but didn't want to waste them. I took the advice of other reviewers and cut them in half before roasting. I was shocked - they were pretty good. I think next time I would roast them a little longer, since mine didn't get really brown. I would recommend this to any brussels sprouts-haters.

Restaurant-Style Coleslaw I

Reviewed: Aug. 24, 2009
I got a cabbage in my CSA box and didn't know what to do with it, so I made this - I just chopped the cabbage and grated some carrots instead of using a pre-made salad mix. I used sour cream instead of the milk and buttermilk. Also, I used red wine vinegar instead of white wine because that's what I had. Pretty good with cold roasted chicken.

Grilled Eggplant, Tomato and Goat Cheese

Reviewed: Aug. 24, 2009
I took another reviewer's advice and soaked the eggplant slices in olive oil, lemon juice, and minced garlic before assembing. A tasty addition to lunch and a good way to use my first CSA eggplant and tomatoes.

Zucchini Pineapple Bread II

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2009
I did not drain the pineapple and decreased the oil to 1/2 c. I was concerned that there weren't any spices in the bread, so I added 1/2 tsp cardamom. This was delicious for breakfast - moist, but not soggy.

Mediterranean Chickpea Salad I

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2009
I also used fresh basil instead of cilantro. This was really good. Next time I think I might add some diced red pepper for crunch.

Stir-Fried Asparagus

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2009
I left out the onion (which my son doesn't like) and the parmesan (which I didn't have) and my husband and I thought this was pretty good. My son wasn't so sure. I'd make it again, though.

Ruby-Red Strawberry Sauce

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2009
I just juiced 1 orange instead of using concentrate. Very good over pancakes for breakfast and then the leftovers over ice cream later that day.
