Pecan Pie V

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2012
Seems that I only used to buy corn syrup to make pecan pie-now I can even save a trip to the store because this pie is fabulous!! Added an extra handful of pecans because I liked the thicker filling-Will be making this for Thanksgiving for sure!! THANK YOU SO MUCH for a much simpler and gourmet tasting pie-it's even better the next day because the filling holds up very nicely!

Sweet and Savory Slow Cooker Pulled Pork

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2012
Fantastic. Cooked on LOW for 8 hours. Omitted the whiskey (didnt have any)and subbed apple cider vinegar as someone else did. PLEASE DO NOT OVER COOK the meat- it will have a somewhat chewy and coarse texture. I checked mine at 8 hours and it was SOOOO good and tender.. left it for another 2 hours... I should have turned it off at 8 hours (it was a PERFECT tenderness).. Though the texture changed a little, the taste was right on- even better 2 days later. You can eat this PLAIN (it's awesome as-is!) or try this with Sweet Baby Rays BBQ sauce, and the Sweet Restaurant Slaw recipe on this site for a mental "Rendezvous back to Memphis!!"

Buttery Corn Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2011
The original recipe is fine, more of a cake-consistency tho. I prefer a more corny flavored/texture corn bread-- so the 2nd time I used 2 cups flour, and 1 1/3 cup cornmeal- it was fantastic! Cover the pan immediately after taking out of the oven- makes it even more moist for the next day!!!

Homemade Maple Syrup

Reviewed: Apr. 1, 2011
EXCELLENT- will never buy store-bought-mystery-ingredient-syrup again! I used 1/2 the recipe proportions, and added 1 Tablespoon of real pure maple syrup for the flavor(grade B, labeled "For Cooking Only") then I poured it into a perfect little jelly jar!! YUM! ..FYI on the pure maple syrup-- I bought a little jar at a specialty Maple Store.. about $11 for a little jar-- it is BETTER than maple extract!!! and more natural!! I used this over the maple extract! FYI the lighter the color of maple syrup, the sweeter it is.. the darker the maple syrup, the more maple-flavor it is.

Won Ton Snacks

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2011
Square wonton wrappers are definitely prettier. I stirred in Pad Thai sauce with the ground pork & onions. In the oven for 12 min.. Then for you Filipinos out there- a dab of Mang Tomas sauce after they come out of the oven!

Vintage Lemonade

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2010
LOVELY recipe- only 4 stars because it really should include instructions to NOT stir the rinds & sugar. It also should advise to minimize the amount of white pith (white inner skin) that you peel off- this is what makes it bitter. Otherwise, this is a sweeeet lemonade-- easily remedied with adding more water if you want a lighter sweetness! I WILL MAKE THIS AGAIN!!!! YUM!!

Asian Style Country Ribs

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2010
YUM!!!! Only 4 stars bc I slightly changed measurements in recipe...Proper combination is key.. this ribs recipe needs to be balanced with something on the sweet side. Cook this in its marinade- mine was perfectly tender after 6hrs. Only used 1Tbsp fresh grated Ginger. Didnt have Sriracha sauce (you can find it though at any Asian Store). Steamed up some broccoli. Served with "Asian Coconut Rice" by Silvrezs on this site. Drizzled sauce/meat on top of broccoli and rice- AWESOME!! *** ONLY DRIZZLE VERY MINIMAL sauce-- in fact, the drippings from the meat will be sufficient *** Too much sauce will overpower and be too salty!!! reminds me of eating in the tropics!
