i am a disabled homemaker who has had 3 children of my own and now 2 grandchildren. But i am also known as the cool grandma until they get into trouble! LOL I have a deep love of family and for friends of which i dont have many cuz i value friendships at such a high level. I take nothing for granted. But i do have a very generous and hilarious side to me thats definitely not so conservative! I feel there is a time and place for everything and even i can mess that one up. Life is one day at a time and usually i can deal with it on lifes terms, once in awhile will i let it get carried away with me,but i try not to,i like my own organized chaos! Every mom out there should understand that one! So to comfort myself and those around me and it has made many a gift throughout the years,i bake and cook for family and friends through the holidays and/or other events or just because i can and its from the heart.
My favorite things to cook
Lately ive enjoyed coming up with new ways to eat healthier and the most challenging is finding the snacking that is delicious and healthy when you have a love for chocolate as i do! I am trying new ways to cook chicken, pork, and even beef to altar the taste to make it more flavorful to suit my palate as my tastes change from day to day and i never know what i want from one day to the next. I have found that i have had to hold back on the baking a little as i search for the again healthy recipes or comfort foods that involve baking or a slow cooker. You know the kind that melt in your mouth and you never want that taste to leave! Well God Bless and if anyone would like to join me on my quest or have any suggestions i am more than willing to take them. I will offer what i know as well.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We only have a few family traditions that i have maintained over the years that my family counts on me to make every year at each event or holiday. For instance on christmas i make a six layer lasagna loaded with cheeses that no one goes home without taking some with them. They love the pies that i could every year with each thanksgiving and christmas holiday. I also have a tradition of making brown bags for everyone to take home with them and they make great gifts when your running a tight budget. It will consist of one or two jams for toast,a package of homeade mints, two varieties of cookies-molasses and sugar and/or oatmeal-raisin,two types of personal sized breads-usually zucchini and cranberry-orange nut. Also included is two varieties of muffins, usually corn and blueberry. Sometimes i will even make a recipe in a jar and include the instuctions so they can go home and try it themselves. We are part native american so i try to make fry bread around Easter time.
