About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
Italian, mexican, anything with Garlic. fresh meat, veggies, and fruits from our "homestead"
My favorite family cooking traditions
on the paternal side, making sure to bring something edible to family gatherings. on the maternal side, sitting back and watching Gramma put out a spread of family favorites. If i'm ever as good at cooking as gramma was, i'll consider myself blessed.
My cooking triumphs
I was able to temper eggs into an alfredo sauce before i conquered jello. just this spring, I was able to make Jello that wasn't grainy on the bottom.
My cooking tragedies
At thanksgiving, we had a buffet style meal, and pretty much told our guests to bring anything they wanted to drink besides koolaid and water. I made the koolaid from a pre-sweetened canister. it apparently was past it's expiration date, and it was the nastiest koolaid ever. My 5year old cousin made a point of telling everyone, "Whatever you do, don't drink the koolaid!" don't know if that counts as cooking, but that's one of the biggest disasters of my life in the kitchen. pre-packaged foods seem to hate me. jello, koolaid, mac and cheeze...

Homemade Fresh Cheese
we tried this according to the recipe. it did not work. after we determined that it was essentially a waste, we decided to experiment to see if we could get it to turn out. after adding a lot more vinegar than called for, and waiting overnight before straining, it was not a bad bowl of cheese.

Applesauce Doughnuts
just made these this morning to try to use up the rest of last year's applesauce. They are awesome! I omitted the cloves, as a matter of personal taste, and I used my cookie scoop to get the batter in the oil. when they were done, I drained them briefly on paper towels, then rolled them in cinnamon sugar. one cup of sugar and a teaspoon of cinnamon was just about perfect to coat all of the donut holes. now that I have this recipe, we will no longer have to buy the expensive donuts at the apple orchard! Thank you!

Cake Mix Cookies IV
I made this recipe with lemon cake mix, the zest of one lime, and about a teaspoon of homemade lemon extract. My dad says that I need to make something less tasty to bring to church tomorrow. :) I used a little more than 1/3 cup of oil, and a little less than 1/2 cup. and I only made two dozen out of one cake mix, adjusting bake time accordingly. next up, spice cake with cream cheese frosting...or maybe triple fudge with peanut butter chips...or...(there's too many variations to decide now)this recipe is awesome!
