Creamy Frosting

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2007
Absolutely fantastic! This is now my go-to recipe for frosting. It is very creamy and silky, sweet but not cloyingly sweet, and rich without being overly so. It's wonderful! A perfect balance.

Southern Fried Cabbage

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2008
I loved this cabbage! It was wonderful - flavorful, crisp and tender. That teeny bit of sugar made the flavors really pop. I made two changes: first, I pulled the bacon out of the skillet when it was done, crumbled it, and added it back in when the cabbage was cooked so that it stayed crispy. Second, I added a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes, simply because my husband likes a little kick to his veggies. Both of us loved it and we'll be making it again!

Shredded Brussels Sprouts

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2008
Delicious! I love brussels sprouts anyway, but my husband doesn't and he really liked these. Shredding the sprouts was a little labor-intensive, so next time I'll probably use my new food processor (I keep forgetting I have one!), but we both deemed this a "make-again" recipe!

Perfect Lemon Curd

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2008
Oh, this was WONDERFUL!!! I did this in a double-boiler over med-low heat and had no problems at all with the eggs cooking. I made a half-batch (used one egg) because I was concerned that my husband and I wouldn't get through a full batch before it went bad, but it was gone within a day! Next time I'll probably double it - my husband just couldn't get enough!

Plain Cake Doughnuts

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2008
These were excellent, especially when coated with cinnamon-sugar! We even fried up the doughnut holes! They tasted just like the fresh doughnuts we get at the cider mill in the fall. With fresh coffee, this was the perfect Saturday breakfast - even our curmudgeonly next-door neighbor wanted some!

Lemon Blueberry Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2008
I can't believe I've been making this bread for 3 years now and I'm just now reviewing it! This is hands-down the BEST blueberry bread I've ever had. I love the lemon flavor, and the bread is just so moist and tasty that I can't resist eating it when it's around. SOOOOOOO GOOD!

Caramel Apple Pie II

Reviewed: Sep. 2, 2006
i made a few alterations to this recipe: first, i quartered rather than halved the caramels because some other reviewers said the caramels didn't melt entirely. second, i added a few more spices - nutmeg, allspice, and just a pinch of cloves and ginger. the flavor was wonderful but the pie was very runny. i believe the cooking time is too short - next time i will start at a higher temp (then reduce to 375) and also will cook it a tad longer. i will definitely be making it again, though!

Ooey-Gooey Cinnamon Buns

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2007
Very, very good! They are just the tiniest bit dry, so next time I will use another reviewer's tip to spread softened butter on the inside rather than the melted butter. I let them cool too long in the pan so i had to spread the sticky caramel on the buns; next time i will immediately turn them out onto a plate. Otherwise, an excellent recipe! My husband said that, along with the fried potatoes and scrambled eggs i made that morning, it was the best breakfast he'd ever had!

Lemon Chewy Crisps

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2008
These were very good. I used chopped pine nuts instead of almonds and thought they turned out great! Next time I will definitely double the batch, though, because this recipe did NOT make very many cookies! My husband and I loved the thin, chewy-crisp texture.

Bourbon Pecan Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 24, 2006
Not bad, but not great either. The chicken should be dipped in some sort of egg or other liquid to help the coating stay on. I also felt the sauce had too much mustard and too much butter - the bourbon flavor was overpowered by them. Less of those ingredients would certainly improve it; the recipe is otherwise quite good.

Baker's Secret Pie Crust

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2009
This recipe did not work for me. I've made tons of pie crusts in my life, but this was without doubt the worst. I wrestled with it for a while, but it kept ripping and sticking, even after chilling it and rolling it out on a cold marble slab! I finally made my regular crust instead.
