Quinoa and Black Beans

Reviewed: Jun. 29, 2004
Good recipe. I added a little dark chocolate at the end to enhance the flavor of the black beans.

Cinnamon-Roasted Almonds

Reviewed: Jun. 29, 2004
Simple and delicious - not to mention addictive. After experimenting a little, I've decided I like them better when I up the salt and cinnamon a bit.

Classic Spanish Sangria

Reviewed: Jun. 29, 2004
Classic sangria at its best. I threw a big party and made 50 servings of this and it went fast. For the wine, I used the Charles Shaw Shiraz from Trader Joes - at $2 a bottle, it makes it an economically feasible party drink. I figured if you're going to add sugar and orange juice to wine, you shouldn't bother with the expensive stuff. Thanks for the recipe!

Banana Cream Pie III

Reviewed: Jun. 29, 2004
Very easy and good option to bring to a potluck. The filling was enough for two pie crusts if you add in the extra bananas like some folks suggest. I think next time, though, I'll just eat the filling as pudding. Yum.

Banana Banana Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 3, 2004
Simple and tasty. Since it was all I had, I used three large bananas which is about half of what the recipe required, but it turned out great. Next time I'll up the bananas, however, if it gets to "mushy" as some reviews have mentioned, I'll go back to the 3 bananas. Thanks for the recipe!

African Curry

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2004
Very good. I agree with the others that it needs more curry spice, but it's an easy enough adaptation.

Rempel Family Meatloaf

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2004
A little greasy coming right out of the oven, but leftovers are great for cold sandwiches.

Cocoa Oatmeal Cookies

Tasty (although not that appealing to the eye). I didn't have raisins so I substituted some chopped dried apricots. Nice flavor combo. Thanks for the recipe.

Gingered Turkey with Potatoes and Chick Peas

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2004
The flavors in this are great, but it came out dry. I added a little broth and tomato paste to moisten it and it was pretty good. In the future, I will use stewed tomatoes instead of fresh ones for moisture.

Figs Oozing with Goat Cheese

Reviewed: Aug. 20, 2004
Great combination of flavors. I didn't really follow the recipe but just cut a wedge in the figs, stuffed them with goat cheese, and placed them on the top rack of the grill for about 15 minutes. Very tasty.

Nice basic recipe. I think it would be improved by adding some vegetables. Time to experiment!

Red Pepper Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2004
Nice recipe. Next time I won't bother straining the soup - it turned out a little thin. In any case, I'm using what was in the strainer as a red pepper spread for crackers and toast.

Creamed Spinach III

Reviewed: Sep. 2, 2004
Tasty flavor. Mine turned out very liquidy though. Next time I'll either cut back on the cream or will put in a lot more spinach.

Not bad but basically a yellow cake with a beer aftertaste. Fun concept but other bundt cakes on the website are tastier.

Brunch Scones

These are easy and delicious. The only change I made was using cream instead of whole milk - it's probably why I'm such a big fan.

Perhaps a little bland as is - dipped in chocolate makes a big difference.
