Cake Mixes from Scratch and Variations

Reviewed: Jul. 11, 2014
I made the spice cake variation. I was super easy and delicious!!!! Made a wonderful cake for my husband's birthday. I can't wait to try the other types. A great alternative to the boxed stuff in the store and not too complicated.

Best Buttercream Frosting

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2014
Ok let me start by saying after reading the reviews I went into this with major patience. I ended up with a hot mess in a bowl. Too sweet and despite beating it within an inch of the poor bowl's life it was still slightly gritty. Maybe next time I will try powdered sugar or a half and half mix.

Yummy Eggnog Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2014
I was absolutely skeptical about this whole concept. I am super picky about my eggnog. I left the rum out of this (our family believes that eggnog is best pure and not watered down by the alcohol) and was very light handed with the nutmeg (I find it to be a very over-powering spice). I unfortunately forgot to take a picture and there was nothing left after it hit the table. This is gonna be a new family tradition. THANK YOU so much for sharing this!

Dave's Georgia Black Eyed Peas

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2014
Well I will have to say I doubted this would be good. I have never made a black eye pea recipe I liked... THIS WAS AWESOME!!! I will be making this every New Year from now on! Only thing I did different was use 1 Knorr beef stock in addition to the chicken bouillon cubes. Thank You for the kickin recipe!

Chocolate Cookie Mix in a Jar

Very nice! I made them for Christmas gifts this year. I too started layering with the flour and it was still a very tight fit.

Chicken Pot Pie IX

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2013
This was really good... I added a teaspoon of minced garlic, and cubed up a large potato and used a whole onion. I cannot stand celery but find it to be a necessary evil so I put mine in the food processor before adding it. I also found it to be a tiny bit dry and will make more sauce next time. This is sure to be a winter favorite in my house!

Sour Cream Apple Pie Deluxe

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2013
As advised we did not make the mistake of trying this warm... That being said this pie is unlike any apple pie I have ever eaten. It took me a bit to get over the texture. It is good if you are looking to get away from the normal apple pie. My husband wasnt immediatly crazy about it either but this pie kinda grows on you by slice 2 or 3...

October Apple Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2013
This was very tasty and a perfect end to Thanksgiving dinner. I only used 1/2 a lemon juiced and it still turned out runny but next time I will add the little extra flour. Also it calls for thinly sliced apples but next time I think I will leave them thicker as I am not a fan of mushy apples. I also used granny smith and the flavor and sweetness were perfect. Also note if using a deep dish pie plate needs more apples....

Perfect Pie Crust I

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2013
YUM! I have made this about 4 times now. Each time I messed with the shortening/butter ratio. I have come to find reducing the amount of shortening to 3/4c and adding 3/4c salted butter makes for a wonderful flaky crust perfect for almost any pie. It was simply wonderful for a chicken pot pie I made too! Thank You so much for sharing this!

Fresh Pear Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2013
This really doesn't taste like you would think.... It was a nice spin on the traditional apple pie taste. The pears give it just a little boost in the fruit flavor. I think next time I will cut the nutmeg in half. It was a bit over powering. I also didn't have any course sugar so I sprinkled a little bit of brown sugar on the top before baking and it was fabulous!!! Also a good idea to use a deep dish. The amount of pears this recipe calls for is too much for a standard 9" pie plate.

Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2013
This was so tasty!! It was hard not to over eat... I added a teaspoon of garlic and in place of water I used chicken stock. I exchanged one can of the soup for the cream of mushroom. Out of sheer laziness I chunked the chicken while still partially frozen and it was to tender and still moist. I also threw in a handful of the preshredded carrots. Next time I think I will use the frozen yeast rolls cut up instead of the canned biscuits (they werent heavy enough of a dumpling for my taste). Thank you for the very enjoyable recipe!!!!

Banana Cream Pie V

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2013
My husband swears this is just like the pie his Grannie used to make! I tweaked it just a bit on his description of hers. I food processed one banana and added it to the pudding mixture while cooking it to make banana pudding. Next time I will use two less ripe bananas for the layers. Note* it must have a 1/2 teaspoon cream of tarter for the meringue to be stable. Thanks for the recipe!!!!

Poor Man's Hamburger Steaks

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2013
After reading many many helpful feedback entries I too cooked the patties for 10mins each side in a 425 oven, drained off the grease and then returned to dish. I sautéed onion, garlic and added a knorr beef stock cup to pan. After the stock melted I added the cans of cream of mushroom and allowed to simmer until the meat was done on the 20 mins of first step. After draining and wiping out dish I spooned gravy mixture on bottom replaced patties and covered with rest of gravy. Covered with foil and cooked for an hour more at 350. I also was heavy handed with the garlic powder and added onion powder. Simple and scrumptious!
