Ray's Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2009
This is THE BEST marinade I have used thus far! The only changes I made to the recipe were to omit the mustard (not a fan) and subbed red wine for the sherry because that is what I had around the house. I had 12 people over for dinner tonight and every single person raved about the chicken and how awesome it turned out. You could by the smell when it was grilling that the chicken was going to rock! A few friends even asked for the recipe. Thank you for sharing! :)

Golden Dinner Rolls

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2009
Loved these rolls! I followed the recipe exactly & they came out very good. However, I would probably recommend halving the recipe as I had 12 people over and still had a ton of leftover rolls.

Peachy Avocado Salsa

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2009
This is an awesome salsa! The only change I made to the recipe was to use the whole jalapeno for an added kick. It was a hit tonight at the deck party I hosted & everyone commented on what a tasty difference the peaches made to the salsa. For us, this recipe is a keeper... :)

Herb Batter Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2009
Very good bread!!! I agree, it does closely resemble the stuff you get at Macaroni Grill. The only changes I made to the recipe were to sub dill for thyme (I was out..oops) and also added on 1/2 tsp garlic powder. The bread was nice & crusty on the outside & chewy inside. Also, I love how there is no kneading invloved; this would be a very good recipe for someone who is just learning how to make bread. Thanks for sharing!! :)

Turkey Cranwich

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2009
YUM!!!!!!!! I made a few slight revisions to this sandwich that put it over the top. Instead of using bread, I used flour tortillas and made the sandwiches into roll ups. I also toasted the walnuts, used a spring mix instead of lettuce & used just plain jellied cranberry sauce (not with the whole berries), which I spread on over the cream cheese. I made my sister's first & she said it was good, but needed just a little oomph, so on my Mom's & mine I mixed a few drops of red wine vinegar in with the cream cheese. SOOOOO GOOD!!!!! My mother commented on how tasty lunch was & all 3 of us had no leftovers (that usually never happens).

Slow Cooker Buffalo Chicken Sandwiches

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2009
My friends & I were headed to the beach for a few hours, so I threw this in the slow cooker (which took 5 minutes to do, if that) and when we came home it was ready to go. Everyone LOVED it! Made just as the recipe specified & wouldn't change a thing. :)

Cornbread Salad I

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2009
This was a very cut & dry salad to make; I assembled it just as stated in the directions & let it sit in the fridge for 2 days before serving. I was feeding a big crowd & still had a ton of leftovers, so next time I am for sure going to make sure to halve the recipe. All in all though, this was a HUGE hit at the bbq I took it to & everyone who ate it commented on how great it tasted. My only complaint is that it took a good chunk of time to assemble after making the bacon & the bread & everything. However, it was totally worth the effort! Thanks for sharing!

'So This Is What Heaven Tastes Like!' Cream Cheese Bars

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2009
LOVE IT! LOVE IT! LOVE IT! I made this recipe EXACTLY as written (but didn't add the optional walnuts & cherries due to picky eaters) and it was AWESOME!!! Everyone at the bbq I went to this weekend devoured the bars; no one ate just one. If I could describe them I would say they are what you would have if blonde brownies & a cheesecake had babies - VERY GOOD & many people asked for the recipe. THANK YOU for sharing Cookinbug!!!

Easy As Chicken Pot Pie

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2009
I enjoyed this pot pie, but that is because (after tasting the filling) I added some MUCH NEEDED touch ups to it. In addition to the Thyme I also added in some Tarragon, white pepper, onion powder & garlic powder; without such additions it was VERY bland. I also boiled up 2 potatoes and threw those in there as well. The use of the puff pastry tasted really good & was a great idea too; loved that part. All in all, a great concept, but needed alot of tweaking...

Mexican Rice II

This rice was just NOT for us. It took waaaayyy longer than 25 minutes for it to not be totally watery & the only thing I could really taste was SALT.

Green Shell Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2009
VERY good & loved the flavors. I used the picallini farfalle from Barilla instead of shells; the only other change I made to the recipe was that I didn't process all of the ingredients together (I admit, I was being lazy and didn't want to have to wash the food processor) but instead chopped everything up finely and just mixed it together & let it sit in the fridge for about 3 hours. Served this at a deck party of 15 people and I think I saw almost everyone go back for seconds!

Beer Lime Grilled Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2009
LOVE THIS MARINADE! I put everything together as instructed (used Labatt Blue Light for the beer) & then added in an extra clove of garlic, plus about a tsp of garlic powder. I cubed my chicken (because I was making shish kabobs), punctured a few spots on the breasts so that the flavors could really get in there and mixed it into the marinade, then let it sit in the fridge for 5 hours. It came out sooo tender and tasty!!! Lauren, thank you for such a great & easy way to make some yummy chicken! :)

Cilantro-Lime Rice

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2009
Okay, I thought this was a 5 star recipe but everyone else was not that crazy about it; so I compromised with the 4 star rating. This recipe was pretty cut & dry; I made it exactly as instructed. The rice was pretty close to what you get at Qdoba, but MUCH stickier. Thanks for sharing the recipe Mrs. Brown! :)

Avocado Salad with Bacon and Sour Cream

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2009
SOOOO GOOD!!!!!! Ingredients wise, I followed the recipe to the "T", except used iceburg lettuce because that is what we had in the house. What a pretty presentation this salad makes & I think it would be even nicer with romaine. I mixed all of the dressing ingredients together (minus the avocados) and let it sit in the fridge for a few hours before serving. Just before dinner I then chopped up the avocados and very gently folded them into the sour cream mixture. My dad RAVED about this salad and said about 5 times how good it was; he never, ever does that! Thanks TXG for such a simple & tasty recipe!!! I plan on making this often. :)

Easy Batter Fruit Cobbler

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2009
This is a pretty decent dessert considering the amount of time that it took. Next time, I will cut back the amount of sugar because it was a bit too sweet for my taste. I halved the recipe and baked it in a jelly roll pan. I used 1/2 cup of frozen blueberries & 1/2 cup nectarice chunks & really liked that combo. Oh, I also added in 1/8 tsp of vanilla for flavor. After reading reviews, I wish I would have also added some sprinkled cinnamon on top, but can always remember to do it if I ever make the recipe again. This is for sure not a flaky cobbler, but much more cakey. Again, it is so easy to make & for such little work ita great "standby" recipe for a quick dessert. :)

Pull-Apart Bacon Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2009
This was a very good bread, but I think that next time I will just coat the top of the buiscuits because the bottoms of mine got burnt. Instead of going through the trouble of frozen bread, I just purchased the canned buttermilk biscuits instead. All in all, it turned out really good & was a pretty well recieved at dinner (the guys did like it better than the gals) and I might make it again. For sure one of those items you can only eat 1 or 2 of. :)

Baked Chicken and Brie

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2009
For so few ingredients, this was a pretty decent chicken. I did use season salt and alot more oregano than the recip calls for because I was worried it would be pretty bland without it. Oh, and opted for beer instead of wine because there were a few sitting in the fridge. The rind on my brie did not melt down well at all, so it looked sort of weird coming out of the oven but I am thinking it is more the brand of the cheese. All in all a decent recipe - nothing completely mind blowing, but it gets points for being easy & cheesy. Thanks for sharing!

Pull-Apart Bacon Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2009
I made this recipe using the buttermilk buiscuits in the can instead. Maybe this is why the bottom of mine burned??? In any case, I think next time I will just dip the tops of the bread into the bacon/cheese/ranch mixture as it was a bit heavy. The taste was pretty good & I might make them again, they were worth trying and the guys seemed to be a bit more "gaga" over them rather than the gals.

BAKER'S Peanut Butter Oatmeal Chocolate Chunk Cookies

Reviewed: Jun. 10, 2009
YUM! Made this recipe as stated, except just added in 6 oz of milk chocolate chips instead of the bar. Loved the combo of everything going on in this cookie! My suggestion to anyone making these would just be to make sure you do not go over the 12 minute baking time because the cookies really crisp up ALOT after baking (at least mine did). My first batch didn't look like it was done at all and was super mushy in the middle, so I let it go for longer & they are now crunchy today. OOPS! In any case, these cookies are awesome!!
