Cucumber Tomato Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2012
Just had this for dinner, and it was outstanding. My Mom made it all the time when I was growing up, but unfortunately did not use a recipe. She just added ingredients to match the size of the bowl and the number of cucumbers and tomatoes she had picked that day. I have tried for years to make mine taste just like hers, but never succeeded until now. This is it!! Thank you Jan; This tastes like pure summer.

Italian Vegetable Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 2, 2011
This recipe might be a good starting point, but because I had to add so much extra water, the broth turned out very bland and tasteless. I added more beef boullion (ran out of beef broth), but I should have added more tomatoes and spices as well. I did that when I reheated for lunch today, and it was better. I think I will stick to my Italian Sausage Soup recipe and just add more veggies to make it "Italian Vegetable Soup." We like the flavor of the sausage more than the hamburger anyway.

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2011
I have been making these cookies for over 30 years. My recipe came from a Sesame Street Activity Book and were called "Cookie Monster's Famous Cookies." My oldest son and I first made them when he was about 3. From then on, these cookies were around for every holiday and were taken to every school party for my 3 boys. The kids all expected them (and their Moms and teachers, too). Even now that my boys are grown and married, they still come home for holidays and ask for their sugar cookies. I just made hearts for Valentine's day for my grandson - he loves them, too. There is no need to look for the perfect sugar cookie recipe - this is it.

Cranberry Orange Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2010
These cookies have been the star of the holiday season at my house. Everyone loves them. They might be o-k with craisins and no frosting, but I followed the recipe exactly and will never change a thing. My husband took a tray of all of my different cookies to the mechanics who service our cars. The tow truck driver at one of these, said "This is the best darn cookie I ever had," then ate the rest of them without sharing. I don't blame him. Thank you, Mordavia.

GA Peach Pound Cake

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2010
Outstanding pound cake!! I used 3 cups of peaches and a dash of almond extract after reading reviews, but I don't think it needs anything else. My family loved it, and I will be making it again and again.

Sour Cream Coffee Cake III

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2006
This cake recipe is exactly like the one I've used for years. It is one of my family's favorites. The texture and taste is unlike any other cake or coffee cake and is awesome. My topping recipe was a little different, but this one might be even better.

Best Hamburger Ever

Reviewed: Jul. 31, 2005
If this isn't the "ultimate hamburger" it's pretty close. I followed the recipe exactly except for the rosemary, which I didn't have. My college-aged son rated it 5 stars, and he does know his hamburgers! Will defintely make again and again.

Old Fashioned Peach Cobbler

Reviewed: Jul. 31, 2005
This is a great "peach dessert" but can't really be classified as a cobbler. To cobble means to "put together hastily." It is what southern ladies did when the preacher invited himself to dinner after church and they had not prepared dessert. I would have doubled the crust but cringed at the thought of 2 cups of shortening. I also wish I had seen the ratings that recommended doubling the cornstarch or not using all of the peach juice. I will make again, but with a few changes.

Chocolate Mousse Cake IV

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2005
Everything that other raters talked about happened to me. The cream never peaked, the "mousse" was too thin, the top layer slipped, and all the mousse ran down the sides. The end result tasted like chocolate pudding over cake. Waaay too much effort for not so great results.

Chocolate Cherry Cake III

Reviewed: Apr. 8, 2005
This is the absolute best. Lasted less than 2 days at my house. The frosting is to die for. I will be using it on other cakes.

Absolutely Ultimate Potato Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2004
My hubby and I agree - this is absolutely the best potato soup we've ever eaten. Out goes the recipe I've used for years. I followed the recipe except for using instant mashed potato flakes to thicken instead of the flour. So much easier, and doesn't detract from the flavors at all. Just sprinkle in a little at a time until you reach the thickness you want. Can't wait to try this on my son when he comes home from college on Christmas break. ummmmm good.

I use this recipe all the time, without changing a thing. My picky teenagers love it and even ask for it. Thanks, Dawn
