I love cooking, and understanding the deeper complexities of what makes good food (think Alton Brown and the science behind cooking). Through trying new recipes, I have grown from an incredibly picky eater to someone who loves to try new flavors, textures, and combinations.
My favorite things to cook
I have never been good at picking favorites, but I like making complex dishes with many components. I enjoy experimenting and learning new ways to combine flavors and techniques.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My parents both cooked meals for us growing up. My father and I especially cooked many meals together, as he always made it fun and a learning experience, from the stove to the table.
My cooking triumphs
My kitchen is smaller than most bathrooms, yet I somehow managed to cook an entire Thanksgiving dinner that everyone loved. I don't even have a regular oven! I made use of my 2 burner stovetop, infrawave oven, and crockpot (roasted a chicken in place of turkey), and somehow everything was ready on time.
My cooking tragedies
I still remember, when I was maybe 11 years old, watching a cooking show about chocolate cake. I memorized the recipe and rushed to the kitchen to try it out. Unfortunately, I forgot the baking powder. I was devastated by my flat cake, and tried to pass it off as "fudge bars!"
