Aunt Anne's Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2013
This has been my family's all-time favorite breakfast for as many years as it's been published! I just forwarded it to my eldest Son's wife as he has been missing this cake since getting married (LOL)! It has never turned out badly and I have varied it sometimes using brown sugar for the topping and I usually add a pinch of nutmeg in the streusel. I have reviewed it before but just wanted to update things since I have a hard time understanding how anyone could not like this cake (I know, everyone has their own tastes - we can't all like the same things)! If the batter comes out a little too thick for your liking just add a little more milk till you like the consistency. One thing, I always use real butter - never margarine, since that contains water and just does not substitute well in any baked goods.

Plum Tart

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2012
I made this pretty much as specified but had butter available no shortening. Brushed crust with egg white. My plums were a bit tart so no one in my family wanted to eat this - it was way too sour - 3 tablespoons of sugar is not enough by any means. Used the same crust recipe and filled with apple pie filling - much better.

BBQ Chicken Pizza

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2010
I've made this several times and my family always raves about it. I left out the cilantro and pepperoncini since I don't always have those on hand but it makes a quick dinner that is very tasty. Not having pre-baked crusts on hand either, I usually use the basic dough from this site's Focaccia Bread without the extra spices as it's quick and easy - another recipe that I always have staples on hand for - it only has to rise 20 minutes then I press the dough into the bottom of my deep dish pizza pan and pre-bake the crust while I'm putting together the sauce for this one. Yum!

Sweet Dinner Rolls

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2009
I made these yesterday for Easter and they were fantastic! They come out looking like crescent rolls, not like the photo but I will be making these again. I used my Vita-Mix to do the dough but it bogged down as the flour to liquid ratio is high for that appliance but it still worked and they got raves from my family.

Kettle Corn

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2006
I used my Whirly-Pop (which is great for keeping the kernals moving rapidly), butter-flavor popping oil and about 1/2 tsp. salt in with the sugar. I put the 3 kernals recommended by other users into the oil and when they popped I quickly added the popping corn then the sugar/salt mixture. I found the sugar seems to make it take longer to pop so you have to be very careful that it doesn't scorch. Mine didn't really but it was just "this side" of scorching. It was a little sticky at first but separated and dried quickly. Very tasty - I almost ate the whole batch myself! Can't wait to try this for my kids and husband - he loves kettle corn!

Easy Yummy Chinese Chicken Salad

Reviewed: May 2, 2005
I make this all the time for my family when I have leftover roast chicken. I use the following substitutions: Peanut oil instead of vegetable oil, leftover roast chicken instead of canned chicken and toasted sesame seeds instead of almonds with a little sesame oil sprinkled on to taste. Everyone always raves about it.

Fantastic Black Bean Chili

Reviewed: Jun. 24, 2004
I had never used black beans before and wanted to try something with this ingredient and I'm glad I found this recipe. I used about 2 tablespoons of oil to saute the onions which was probably a little much but by the time I added the turkey it was about right. I also added 1/2 tsp. salt and 1/2 tsp. ground cumin when I added the other spices. I thought about 1/2 hour into simmering that it would be too wet so I uncovered the pot and just put a spatter screen over it and by the time an hour passed it was perfect. I served it with Mexican Corn Bread on the side and even my three picky boys loved it! I will make this again for sure.
