Chronicles of drinking water

I am a pretty methodical person, and project planning is my specialty.

Of course having decided to live a healthier lifestyle I wanted to start at the beginning and work my way up.

I now face my biggest giant: WATER! He loves water, so cutting off pop and juice for water was a pretty easy step.

For me, cutting off pop for real fruit juices was easy. Getting that required 8 (8oz) glasses of water per day is still a real challenge.

I have tried everything to achieve those 8 glasses but I am still struggling.

Here are a few tricks I tried adding to my water:
1. Adding lemon juice, which is said to help with digestion.
2. Adding fresh fruits like strawberries and blueberries with a drop of lime juice to my ice cubes
3. Adding lemon juice to carbonated water

So far, I am more likely to drink close to 8 glasses per day of carbonated water like San Pellegrino and Perrier with lemon juice added to the bottle, than pure distilled water.

Do you have the same struggle? What tricks do you use to achieve those 8 glasses of water per day?

I like slices of cucumber in my water. I find it makes the water seem more fresh. I do not count my water intake but take the cue from the color of my water out put to let me know if I am drinking enough.

Hi Marie C., that's an interesting blend, can explain please the water intake/output cue?

I tried "sassy water" I found on Pinterest. Fill pitcher w water, add a cut-up lemon, half (or more) of a cut cucumber and some fresh mint (optional) I really like the taste, it really helps for weight loss and you can just keep adding water for 2-3 days before restarting with fresh. Store in fridge.

That was my polite way of saying urine output should be light yellow to clear. That is how you know if you are drinking enough liquid.

Thanks irayd8 I'll try that!

I just like plain, ice water. I'm really spoiled having very clean, fresh tasting well water. I'm not looking forward to city water when we move. I'm going to get the best filtering system I can afford.

I will only drink icy cold water so I keep a pitcher in the fridge with lime slices in it. I love the fresh clean taste of lime. I have read about cucumber too and plan to try that when I can get good quality cukes from the Farmers Market.

I like water - so I have no problem drinking it. I like it really cold with ice and a lemon slice in it. Lime sounds like it could be really good, too, I'll have to try that.

Since you are organized and methodical, you might try getting a large glass and determining to drink so many by a certain time. For instance, I have one that I know I need to finish by noon, then fill it up, and finish by 4:00. Another trick I have is to drink so many swallows at a time (I know approx how many swallows = 1 cup). I can't do the gallon jug sitting on the counter. It's too daunting for me. Isn't that silly? But whatever works!

By the way, I was told in my Weight Watchers group that the recommended water intake is SIX - eight glasses of water a day. I find I can do 6 much more easily.

Paula thanks for that update, I think I may be able to reach 6/da rather than 8!
