Healthy Husband, Happy Wife!

So my husband got up a few weeks ago and decided he wanted to live a more healthy lifestyle. He wanted to lower the carbs, increase the veggies, only drink water, the works. That was just fine for me as I want him to be more healthy and cut off the junk, but at the same time, it was quite a shock to my creativity. 

Being Jamaican, starch, carbs and protein is a pretty standard part of all meals. Definitely not tiny portions either. As a newlywed, dinner was one new thing on my plate, no pun intended,  to further have to prepare healthy dinner, I was both terrified and excited.

Regardless, challenge accepted!

Let's be real, the minute you think healthy, you think diet. At least I did. Until I started reading and exploring more, and I realised what he wanted was more of a healthy lifestyle, not just a diet plan. This was definitely something I could sign on to, a healthy lifestyle.

So here we go!

I for one am looking very forward to reading your blogs. I'm trying to eat more healthy too. It's so easy to fall back in to eating bad stuff that's quick and easy.

Moderation is the key-we need a varied diet-most of us could use more fiber,and smaller plates are your friend. Left-overs are great for lunch,especially when it's not enough for another dinner. Giving up soda is a big boost to health & weight loss. Lemon or cucumber slices in water brighten the taste and is a nice change.

Good for you!! Try out the recipe for October Oatmeal Pumpkin muffins in all recipes web. BUT make the following changes one user suggested: reduce white sugar by 1/2.(use 1/4 C.) Sub Molassas for syrup.(More nutrition than syrup) Add 1/4 cup flax seed ( lots more healthy fiber) To simplify the "how to" add greater nutrition process just encourage your readers to eat a variety of COLORS....it will automatically give them a wider variety of neutrients w/0 having to know what veggie is highest in what neutrient. Did you know that when veggies and fruits that ate high in Vit. C ( broccoli, cauliflower,most fruits, etc.) are cooked they LOOSE ther vit C. (But keep all that good fiber) (Heat kills vit C. BUT when veggies that are high in beta caroteen and vit A, cooking actually INCREASES the available beta caroteen? Just a piece of nutrition trivia I leared in a college nutrition class. Eating "healthy" is not as scary as it sounds. There are little steps to get you started. If you find a recipe you like make some small adjustments to it. I know one thing that has been great for me is watching the sodium that is in foods. I put a chicken burger recipe up on my blog that is so easy and better for you than a normal hamburger. (Crazy but good) Have fon creating new things!

Chicken surprise. The intention was chicken and vegetables baked into dumplings, however, it should have been called Chicken rocks hahahahaha! As a beginner cook, hm didn't add baking soda/powder to the dough. I plan to try this again!
