About this Cook
I love baking and making cakes for my friends and family, especially for birthdays! I would like to learn more about making pastries and different kinds of bread.
My favorite things to cook
Definitely desserts and baking. I particularly like cakes because they can be a bit of a challenge, but I also like cookies, brownies, cupcakes, etc.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My Grandma and my Mom are excellent cooks; I guess that's where I became interested in cooking and baking. My family has always used un-refined ingredients, natural flavouring, etc. so I definitely follow in their footsteps. I always say that my baking may not exactly be healthy, but at least it's all-natural!
My cooking triumphs
Making my sister's four-tier wedding cake 2.5 years ago. It was a lemon pound cake and was delicious. There were about 150 guests so the pressure was on, but it all worked out great.
My cooking tragedies
Oh, there have been lots. Once I was making a sugar/butter glaze for a cake and I cooked it too long. It burned and when it hardened you could literally stick the spoon up straight in the pan. Needless to say, I threw it out!

Cream Cake
This cake is easy and delicious! I followed other reviewers' advice and omitted 1/4 tsp. salt and added 1/4 tsp. baking powder. I beat the eggs and sugar together at high speed for about 10 minutes and I think that makes quite a difference. I also used very good quality vanilla to enhance the flavour. I doubled the recipe and baked it in a bundt pan but it almost overflowed--next time I'll put some of the extra batter in a small loaf pan. I cut the cake into bite sized pieces and used it for a chocolate fondue, but it would be very good with whip cream, ice cream, or many different icings. A very versatile cake! It still tasted very good after 4 days (being kept in an airtight container).
