I've been cooking since I was about 4 years old, when my mom first showed me how to make scrambled eggs. She really instilled the art of cooking in me and I was responsible for making at least 3 dinners a week. I love cooking cooking and baking!
My favorite things to cook
I LOVE to bake. I love making sweet, delicious treats for my friends and family. I like to try for the harder things that take time but also love the quick and easy things. Coming up with new ways to serve chicken is also a fun past time.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every shopping day my mom and us kids (6 of us) would sit down and plan out our weekly meals, including a few yummy desserts. Homemade cookies, brownies and candy were really big. Mom would have us throw all the ingrediants together, she'd stir them up and we'd each get a BIG spoonfull of batter and a cup of milk. Those are some of the best memories.
My cooking triumphs
My first cheesecake! After moving to Germany, I hadnt found a REALLY good cheesecake at any of the german resturants so I decided to bite the bullet and make one, even though I've heard it can be difficult to get it perfect. I made a white chocolate cheesecake and it turned out BEAUTIFUL! No cracks in the middle, just absolute perfection. Everyone told me it was better then any other cheesecake they'd ever tasted. Its now my specialty.
My cooking tragedies
Right after I got married and home from our honeymoon, I wanted to cook my husband a great dinner. Our "first" married couples homemade dinner. I decided to make homemade spaghetti with garlic bread. The spaghetti sauce turned out great, all I had to do was toast the bread. I put it in the broiler to toast and went to set the table. The next thing I know thick black smoke is pouring out of the broiler. I run over and yank it open and my bread was on fire! There was so much smoke that the alarm went off and our little tiny apartment was filled. We tried to open all the windows but after we put out the fire we had to go outside...until I forgot that the spaghetti sauce was still on the burner. I ran in and it was boiling over and all OVER the oven top. Its the last time I've ever tried making homemade spaghetti or using a broiler. LOL
