Luscious Slush Punch

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2011
I gave this 5 stars based on the idea - it's a great way to keep the punch cold without diluting it with ice. I was looking for a blue punch to make for my sister's baby shower in a few weeks. I tried this recipe, (cut down) but wanted to simplify it a bit, since we'll have 65 guests. I used Berry Blue Jello and cut the sugar in half. In order to keep the blue color, I used Limeade in place of the orange juice and lemon juice. I mixed it with Sprite. I tastes like a lollipop in a glass to me. :) I think it will be a hit at the baby shower.

Easy Beef Stroganoff

Yummy! Followed the recipe, but added fresh garlic when cooking the mushrooms and onion. My whole family liked this - especially my 2 year old!

Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Muffins

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2010
After reading other reviews, I decided to add more applesauce to the recipe. I was using 4 oz. individual servings of applesauce, so I just did 2. (8 oz. total). I also added 2 Tbsp. of milk after adding the oats. These were pretty good, but they did still fall apart while eating them. My 2 year old made a HUGE mess eating one for breakfast!

Easy OREO Truffles

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2010
These taste great, but what a pain in the neck to make! I would hardly call them "easy". I did one batch with regular Oreo's and one with mint Oreo's for my husband's office. Maybe that's why it seemed like so much work. I also had a hard time getting the cookies to crumble in the food processor - I had to do 5 or 6 at a time. Tedious, but they do taste good.

Easy French Dip Sandwiches

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2010
This was really good! I sauteed some sliced onions in a little butter, then added beef broth. We like our roast beef more rare, so I just put each slice in the broth for a few seconds, just long enough to moisten it. Next time I will use consomme as recommended, instead of broth - it was a little bland. Thanks for the great and easy recipe!

Italian Grilled Cheese Sandwiches

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2010
Delicious! I use Italian bread and both mozzarella and provolone cheese. I serve it with tomato soup instead of the marinara sauce. My family loves it!

Baked Potato Salad

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2010
Very good, but I made a few changes. I got baby potatoes and cut them into 1 inch cubes. I roasted them with 2 Tbsp of butter in a covered pan for 30 mintues. I find the potatoes hold their shape better this way and taste more like a baked potato. I didn't use mayo and used a package of bacon pieces instead of making bacon, to save time. I used fresh scallions as well. We prefer to eat this at room temp. or just slightly chilled. My family loved it.

Best Lemonade Ever

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2010
I made this recipe for my daughter to sell at her lemonade stand. I doubled the recipe and hand squeezed the lemons and it still only took me about 20 minutes to make. I'm not a huge fan of lemonade, but this is really good - not too sweet and not too tart.

Sugar-Free Peanut Butter Cookies

Reviewed: May 31, 2010
I used reduced fat, crunchy peanut butter and egg whites instead of whole eggs. I actually used a little more egg whites than called for and they came out nice and light and almost fluffy. I thought they were great! You do have to let them cool completely to get the right consitancy. I would love to try this recipe with a lower fat/calorie peanut butter substitute.

Purple Monstrosity Fruit Smoothie

Reviewed: May 26, 2010
I just made this for myself and my kids for an afternoon snack. I found it to be way too strong of a banana flavor for my taste. I guess because of the color in the picture, I expected more of a blueberry flavor. Next time, I will use 1/2 a frozen banana and double the blueberries. I used milk in place of orange juice, mainly for my kids.

Custard Bread Pudding

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2010
This review is for the sauce only - I have a recipe for white chocolate bread pudding and needed a good vanilla sauce. I made the one in this recipe and substituted milk for the water, as another reviewer suggested and added 1/2 tsp immitation rum. It is absolutely delicious and couldn't be simpler to make!

Creamy Potato Leek Soup II

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2010
This was pretty good, but even with some additions, I found it to be a little bland. I added 2 cloves of garlic and salt and pepper. I used half and half to cut down on the fat and also used only 1/2 lb. of bacon and drained most of the fat off before cooking the leeks. I served this with sour cream, grated sharp cheddar and the crumbled bacon.

Awesome Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2009
I had loaned out my crock pot, so I just used this recipe and cooked my roast in the oven on 325 for 3 hours. I used a 31/2 lb. roast, since that's the biggest I could find in my grocery store. I took the advice of other reviewers and coated the roast in seasoned flour and browned it before baking. It made a great gravy, and I didn't have to add anything to thicken it. I will make this again, for sure!

Easy Homestyle Green Beans

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2009
My family LOVED these! I doubled the recipe and added 1/2 a can of beef stock, since I didn't have chicken boullion. I simmered them for 1 hour. They tasted like they cooked all day. My 6 year old ate 3 helpings!

Roasted Garlic Bread

Reviewed: May 19, 2009
This is amazing - so worth the small amount of effort to make your own garlic bread. I use two bulbs of garlic and add Italian seasoning instead of just parsley. I make a big loaf and cut in in half. I serve half and freeze the other half(before baking)for later.

Fresh Tomato Basil Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 31, 2009
I only had 6 tomatoes left from our garden. I boiled them for 2 minutes to make them easier to peel. I cooked everything for 2 hours, pureed it, and let simmer another 2 hours. It was better than I expected! I also added 2 Tbsp. organic butter at the end to add gloss and a little richness - I served it on mini-bowtie pasta - my 5 year old loved it!

Brazilian White Rice

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2009
Very good! I used half water and half chicken broth. I don't think I will make white rice any other way from now on! This would be especially good with black beans.

Chicken Florentine Casserole

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2009
I browned the chicken in a pan and set it aside. In the same pan, I sauteed fresh baby spinach and mushrooms. I also feel that the bacon was sort of "lost" in all the other igredients. I served this with the "Brazilian Rice" from this site. Very good!

Christmas Breakfast Sausage Casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2008
I made this recipe for Christmas breakfast. I assembled it the day before and popped it in the oven Christmas morning. I substituted Texas Toast for the white toast. I baked it according to the box directions first. I also doubled the eggs and used turkey sausage patties, chopped. It was a big hit, and very easy to make!

Chocolate Pretzels

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2008
I did hershey kisses and hugs. Apparently, I left them in the oven too long. I think I did 5 minutes at 350. I wound up throwing them away and just putting the new batch in the microwave on 50 percent power for 1 minute. They were perfect! The hugs come out really cute with the stripes on them!
