Butter Cream Frosting I

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2013
Came out too runny when I followed suggestions to increase the vanilla and icing sugar.

Morning Glory Muffins I

1 tbsp of cinnamon seemed to be too much. Also, I preferred it without raisins.

Walnut Raisin Scones

Reviewed: May 25, 2011
Delicious when eaten warm right out of the oven. Could use a little bit more lemon (or orange?) flavour.

Pasta with Gorgonzola and Sweet Onion

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2010
Delicious! Some reviews have said to increase the sauce. I just added a bit of extra olive oil and it was delicious. I agree with the need to add some vegetable to this -- to increase the flavor and make it look more appealing. I added a 1/2 cup of chopped canned tomatoes because I had them on hand.

Sour Cream Chocolate Frosting

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2009
Delicious. It tasted different freshly made than it did after being in the fridge. Not sure how much the sour cream added to the flavour.

Dark Chocolate Cake I

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2009
Amazing! Basic ingredients, quick to make and delicious. I made it exactly according to the reciepe -- no changes or substitutions. I especially love that this is not too sweet...it went really well with the Sour Cream Chocolate Frosting.

Lentils and Rice with Fried Onions (Mujadarrah)

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2009
Unbelievably simple and delicious. Browning the onions is key to the flavor - I would recommend increasing the temperature a bit when sauteeing. I might also increase the amount of onion the next time by about 1/2.

Chuck's Favorite Mac and Cheese

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2009
Although it was not bad, I really didn't love this recipe. I grew up eating my mom's mac and cheese made with a very basic cheese bechamel sauce and this doesn't really measure up...it had more of a dry/lumpy texture (and I added 1/2 cup of milk as some reviewers had suggested).

Marshmallow Fondant

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2009
This worked perfectly and looked spectacular but IMO it was way too sweet - it is basically pure sugar. I think I prefer the standard fondant (which I understand is also a bit easier to work with once it's rolled out).

Applesauce Cake VI

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2009
Worked great as recommended...decrease vegetable oil to 3/4 cups and increase applesauce to 2+1/2 cups. I used it for my daughter's first birthday cake - with cream cheese frosting II and marshmallow fondant.

Garlicky Baked Butternut Squash

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2008
Very tasty! If you cut the pieces smaller (1/2 inch cubes) it cooks in less than 40 minutes. I used dried basil instead of the parsley (didn't have any on hand) and it turned out great.

Kristen's Awesome Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2006
I did a double batch and it made more than 100 "two-bite"-sized cookies! Substituted butter for the shortening and added dried cranberries and mini-semi-sweet chocolate chips. I also halved the cinnamon as I was not sure how it's flavour would mix with new ingredients. Great texture and flavour. A bit too sweet...I used a whole bag of chocolate chips...next time I would cut this in half and cut the white sugar in half as well.

Simple Spinach Lasagna

Take note of the size of the pasta sauce jar...really you need to be buying 2 regular-sized jars.

Apple Hermits

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2006
Very tasty but didn't turn out at all attractive. As a previous reviewer noted, the batter was quite dry and cookies needed to be formed by hand before baking to keep all the nuts and apples and raisins together. Next time will add some milk for moisture, chop the apples more finely (1/8 in.) and cut back on the raisins to 1/2 or 3/4 cup.

Judy's Strawberry Pretzel Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2006
Somehow I missed the step of mixing in the Cool Whip so I served it on the side. Ended up tasting like cheesecake (with a delicious, salty crust). Beware: I was probably too impatient with thawing the strawberries and the jello turned out very runny. Halfed the recipe -- enough for 8.

Braided Egg Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2005
Made some lovely bread (two very large loaves...could easily have made 3 or 4 regular-sized loaves). Only complaint is that bread was a bit dry/dense...next time I make it I will probably reduce to 9 or 10 cups of flour.
