Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2013
I have to agree with a prior post, no true Southerner puts sugar in the cornbread. I always use a tablespoon of left over bacon grease I collect in a canister specifically made for grease that strains it. Heat it until it's starting to steam or it sizzles when you flick a drop of water in it. Pour the grease over the cornmeal mix, stir, then put back into the pan while it's still hot, this makes the nice browned crust, then put it into the oven on 400F preferably. I always use buttermilk as well. If I want to make the cornbread sweet, I don't use sugar, I use honey. There are also a bunch of different variations I do with the flavors that can be added. This recipe above is a Northernized version.

Creamy Chocolate Frosting

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2013
Tried it with whole milk straight out of the fridge, worked amazingly. Make sure to alter milk to mixture ratio exactly as the directions say. PERFECTO!

Moist, Tender Spice Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2013
This recipe was absolutely perfect the way it was. I did not try the alterations suggested by other reviewers and so glad that I didn't. The cake was absolutely perfect the way it was and only needed a dusting of confectioner's sugar to complete it. The cake reminds me very much of old fashioned ginger cake that we make at Rocky Mount, TN Living History Museum. Sure, alterations would probably go very well with it, but sometimes simplicity takes the cake. Punny intended.

Best Moist Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 20, 2013
I did not have a lot of faith after having a disaster after the Decadent Chocolate cake recipe on here. My fears seemed to be confirmed when I found the mix to be thin/runny to say the least, but all in all I was pleasantly surprised upon completion of baking. Even with just the baking soda, it rose well. Very chocolatey. Smells superb. I think we have found a winner!
