Apple Crumble Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2004
My first successful apple pie! Thanks, Penny for the only pie recipe that didn't turn to soup. And the flavor was wonderful! This is a keeper.

Slow Cooker Beef Stew I

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2004
A good basic starter recipe but I am glad that I had a packet of McCormick Stew seasoning. I had to use the whole packet to give the stew any flavor and to thicken the gravy. Won't use this one again.

Mrs. Sigg's Snickerdoodles

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2004
I gave this four stars because the recipe, as it is written, may cause the cookies to burn. The time to bake was too long (at least in my oven with a thermometer). My first batch burned on the bottom which is easy to do with all the sugar on them. I would warn to watch the cookies carefully and place on a higher rack. They were delicious when not burned.

Mini Meatloaves

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2004
Sponge-like texture. This tasted okay but not great. I'll stick to my recipe, but the kids liked the mini idea. Also one pound of ground beef cannot feed 8 people. I used 2 pounds.

Kathy's Roast and Vegetables

Reviewed: Aug. 22, 2004
I gave this only three stars because the meat was a little tough and the veggies were a little under done. I let this cook for 9 hours so I don't know what went wrong. I prefer the recipe on this website titled "Pot Roast in Foil". That was so much better.

Kay's Spaghetti and Lasagna Sauce

Reviewed: Aug. 22, 2004
My husband said this was the best spaghetti he has had in a very long time. Next time I will reduce the sugar a bit. My kids noticed the sweetness and didn't care for it. I loved it, though.

Beef Enchiladas II

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2004
Very good! I would only make a couple changes. I only had 8 tortillas and that was enough for the one pound of ground beef. I would probably put more ground beef in them. I also put some of the sauce on the beef before I rolled them up. These were very good, though.

Chicken Fettuccini Alfredo

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2004
This was a little too thick and gummy. I have never heard of an alfredo sauce with monterey and colby cheese. It was good but if I made it again I would lighten it up a bit with something. Also, it made a ton of it and I have lots left over.

Apricot Chops

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2004
I love this. I used boneless chops so I had to cut down on the cooking time. The sauce is great with rice.

Marinated Flank Steak

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2004
This was superb! I wouldn't change a thing, except to say that the longer you let this marinate, the better. Delicious.

Chicken Cordon Bleu I

Reviewed: Aug. 9, 2004
Husband said this was good, but it took about an hour to cook. The recipe sounded dry so I made a sauce using cream of chicken soup, sauteed shallots, and sage. I poured it over the chicken, topped with the bread crumbs, then put cheese on top during the last 5 minutes.

Cobb Salad from the Sunset Kitchens

Reviewed: Aug. 9, 2004
This was good. The dressing was a little too tangy so I added some honey. I also left out the watercress.

Salisbury Steak

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2004
I gave this only three stars because it was so bland. The other reviews said the sauce was tangy. No way. It was good but not very flavorful. The meat was very bland and needs something to spice it up. I might try this again but add some parsley and other spices and herbs to give it some flavor. Don't serve this to company.

Herb Roasted Pork

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2004
Fabulous! The sauce for this is so unique. Everyone said "Great sauce". The roast was very tender and moist.

Awesome Broccoli Marinara

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2004
Good side dish and a nice change from plain broccoli. I needed to simmer it a little longer because the marinara was too watery. The broccoli was perfectly crisp.

Best Ever Corn Muffins

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2004
So good! Now this is a very sweet recipe. Everyone thought I was serving cupcakes. If you don't like your cornbread sweet then this one is not for you. We all loved it, though.

Garlicky Potatoes

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2004
Very good! I roasted the garlic first in the oven then just squeezed it into the potatoes. I didn't have the chives but didn't really miss them. They don't even need gravy.

Mom's Favorite Baked Mac and Cheese

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2004
Loved this! Instead of chopping the onions, I grated them. My kids can spy an onion a mile away so I always grate the onions so you get the flavor, but not the chunks. I used a combination of the sharp cheddar and velveeta cheeses. I'll make this again and again.

Campfire Green Beans

Reviewed: Jul. 30, 2004
These were really good. I liked the almonds and onions. Next time I might try this with fresh green beans as the canned aren't always the best.
