Bone-In Ham Cooked in Beer

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2010
everyone said it was the best ham they'd ever had. I've never seen a ham so juicy, when you went to cut it, juice ran out of it. Crazy good! Also, it didn't taste like beer. I used one can crushed pineapple and one bottle imperial pale ale for a 10 lb 1/2 precooked Meijer ham. Baked 4 hours, first 1 hr at 325, then two at 250 and one at 325 to finish heating it up.

Bob's Habanero Hot Sauce - Liquid Fire

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2010
if I could give 6 stars I would . I do not use the mustard in this recipe, just leave it out. this is my go to sauce now for chili, cooking, etc. it makes a geat base if you add 1/2 of this sauce to 1/2 peach or apricot jam for a glaze for chicken or pork chops too. Yum!

I liked this version and I didn't have frozen or fresh strawberries and this worked just fine.

Bierock Casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2010
I liked this casserole. it did have a very tangy taste due to the sauerkraut, but my hubby and I liked it very much. I only made 1/2 batch by pressing the crescent rolls out thin in a 8x8 pan. It probably would have been better with more bread, but I didn't want to spend that much on two cans of crescent rolls, being a cheap cook!.

Italian Sausage Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2010
Awesome base recipe! I really liked this soup. It seems like as long as you use this base of italian sausage, tomatoes beef broth and beans, then you can put in anything you like. I didn't have the right beans. so I used black beans. I didn't have zucchini or spinach, so I used 2 potatoes, an ear of corn, 2 stalks celery, a large bell pepper, and 1/2 c onion. still great. I used italian sausage bratwurst type sausage links and just browned them well and then cut them into slices. This made pretty circles of sausage in the soup. For the second time, day before Christmas when we have a crowd of people over, I'm using twice the veggies and broth and tomatoes and still just 1 lb of sausage and adding a bag of mezzaluna four cheese ravioli. I'm sure that will work too. (edited review-it worked fine with more veggies and small cheese filled ravioli, if you have a crowd and want to extend your soup!)

Jeannie's Famous Potato Hamburger Casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2010
I really liked the idea of this recipe, but I changed it a whole lot. it sounded too rich and too expensive to make. You have to cover it with foil to get the potatoes done in a timely manner. I cooked the ground beef but used only 1/2 lb, with the onion, added 1/2 t seasoned salt and 1/8 t garlic powder. Added about 3/4 cup flour to this and then added 5 cups of milk and one cup of water.this I cooked into a "gravy". Layered into 9x13, sauce, then 1/8 head cabbage chopped, potatoes, sauce, 1/8 head chopped cabbage again, potatoes, sauce. added 2 c shredded cheddar on top, sprinkled with parsley. baked covered with foil 1 hr 25 minutes from cold oven (didn't preheat). then 20 minutes uncovered to brown. I think I kept the original feel of the recipe but added more flavor and veggies by adding cabbage and seasoned salt and garlic. and lightened it a lot by using less meat and cheese and no cream and adding another veggie. also made it more economical priced.

When we make this we usually use grape jelly and bbq sauce in equal amounts, but this was good too! I also left out the lemon juice.

Another cool add in is when you first start cooking it, add a crushed dried or fresh habanero pepper to make a more spicy flavor when finished.

Easy Curried Cauliflower

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2009
very good, we didn't especially like so much coriander seed in it, it kind of over powered the dish. However being from Indiana, maybe that's the way it's supposed to be and we just don't know it.

Fried Cauliflower

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2009
I change the recipe as follows when I make this instead of making my own batter, I use a box of the jiffy cornbread mix and just mix it with milk until it's the right consistency to dunk the cauliflower in. Then I deep fry it. Everyone loves it and it's cheap and easy to make!

Homemade Fresh Cheese

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2009
Awesome! I used white vinegar and the cheese doesn't taste like vinegar at all. My whey seemed milky looking the first time, so I reheated just the whey again to 195, added 1/8 c more vinegar and made about a cup of firmer more set up cheese from what I missed the first time! It even didn't taste like vinegar. The whey came out totally clear and yellowish after that. Thanks so much for posting this great recipe!

Jalapeno Popper Spread

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2009
I really liked this and I didn't even follow the directions! I guess it's a very forgiving recipe. I used canned jalapeno pickled slices and although it really didn't taste like a popper, it was a very good dip. Thanks for the recipe!

Barbecued Beef

Another good idea...double the sauce ingredients, cook the meat as stated in the crock pot. Then brown a couple pounds of hamburger and add it along with the meat during the last hour or so of cooking. You can stretch this recipe to feed more like 20 and it's economical too!

Barb's Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2009
These muffins have a good flavor but you have to eat them as soon as they cook or they get tough/dry due to lack of oil. They have a good flavor but I think they really need some oil added for texture. I've made these several times before deciding what was wrong.

Apple Cake V

Everyone who tried this loved it! I left out the nuts, and I thought it might be too much oil, so I just put in the one cup of oil and put in milk for the other 1/4 cup of oil. It turned out great! Thanks for submitting this great recipe

Nany's Cheesy Cauliflower Casserole

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2008
I really liked this recipe. I did make the changes that others suggested and also because I didn't have the cheddar cheese I used velveeta. It was really good using 1/2 of the mayo, regular milk instead of evaporated, and velveeta. This was taken to a church carry in and everyone liked it. Thanks for the great recipe!
