Gram's Ham Loaf

This is IT! My late husband's ham loaf. This meal is DELISH made just as the recipe is written. Try it before making any changes. Certainly deserves a blue ribbon in my family's book!

Zesty Carrots

This recipe was in my husband's family for years. Only difference was the sauce (without crumbs) was put with the carrots, and the crumbs sprinkled on top of all. We used crushed Ritz crackers. Update: The negative comments on the horseradish seem to be from having it all sitting on top. It is milder when mixed with all the carrots, and the amount can be adjusted so there is just a hint until kids get used to the taste.

Spool Sugar Cookies

EXCELLENT! This recipe has been passed down in our family for over 70 years (butter in place of margerine). Shame on reviewers who changed it, then rated it low. If you don't follow the recipe, submit your own. Not chilling makes it more difficult to work with, but results are the same. My Grandmother added a dried cherry or nut meat to the center to dress it up. She'd have LOVED the spool idea, and I'm going to try that. Cute. Flavor is FANTASTIC with no dress up.

Make-Ahead Baked Egg Sandwiches

Wonderful recipe. To avoid the sogginess of the reheated sandwich after freezing, I baked the eggs (I'd do at 325 degrees next time), cut them into individual portions and froze them individually wrapped in plastic wrap. In the morning, reheat the egg in the microwave while toasting the muffin, bagel, or croissant. Your choice to add what meat, cheese, or spread you like. Not quite grab and go, but still fast, tasty, and fresh with minimal mess and still quicker than a drive-through. And depending what you keep on hand for fixings, everyone can have their sandwich to order.

Pasta Pomodoro

I have done something similar when my cherry tomatoes are in season, but without the balsamic. I look forward to trying this version this summer. My method is to add halved cherry tomatoes and torn basil after it is all assembled and just heat through. I also use any pasta I have on hand, less liquid and more basil (because I love it). The fresh taste of hot, fresh tomatoes is amazing. I will also be adding the fresh spinach as suggested by another reviewer.

Roasted Garlic Bread

Since I usually cook for one, I roast garlic, remove the individual cloves and freeze keeping the cloves separate. I can then remove a clove or two and make the spread any time. It works great to spread it on already toasted bread since garlic burns so easily. A gourmet touch to any meal in a flash and so much better than using garlic powder.

Cheese Crackers

These are fantastic! Used very sharp cheddar and they were definitely not bland. Followed your recipe except for using cayenne (1/4 tsp). Next time may try topping with sesame seeds and a light dusting of paprika. The heat wasn't overwhelming so everyone enjoyed them. I almost forgot the last pan and they were golden brown--a bit too done! 25-30 min. was perfect in my oven. My suggestion would be to watch carefully after 20 min. because once they begin to turn color they over cook very quickly.

Grilled Salmon I

This is so close to my favorite fix for salmon. I use equal parts low sodium soy sauce, brown sugar and lemon juice and a generous amount of fresh grated ginger. The lemon juice balances the brown sugar so it isn't so sweet. I then baste while cooking for added flavor. Love it! Also for those who blame this recipe for being fishy, It is likely because your fish was on the verge of spoiling. Salmon is healthy and it is not fishy when fresh. It may also help you if you remove the skin.

Ultimate Steak Sandwich

I am not a huge fan of raw garlic, but love the more mellow flavor of roasted garlic. I also fry the onion then flash fry the steak to prevent it becoming tough. Great sandwich!

Joseph's Best Easy Bacon Recipe

I only bake bacon and am anxious to try Joseph's cold oven start. I cook up the whole pound no matter how much I need and store the rest in the frig or freezer. Pre-cooked bacon is so handy to have on hand and by doing your own you can use much better bacon than what the stores offer precooked.

Bourbon Glazed Carrots

For those concerned about the alcohol, most alcohol is cooked out before adding, plus this is 8 servings. Do you leave vanilla out of baked goods that you serve to children? Here the bourbon is used as a flavoring, not an adult beverage.
