Sugar Cookie Icing

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2012
I was looking for a frosting that would travel well, because we wanted to take frosted cookies to a family gathering and didn't want to arrive with a bunch of smooshed and smeared cookies. This frosting worked great! I also wanted to share that I did not have light corn syrup, and because I did not have time to run to the store, I used dark. The color still came out great.

Mrs. Sigg's Snickerdoodles

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2012
These were fantastic. My entire family loved them, and has asked for me to please make more. I love this recipe because the ingredients are items I almost always have on hand. They are also very durable. They come off the pan nicely, and pack up great in lunches. I will make them for gifts. Thanks for sharing this recipe.

Crispy Orange Beef

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2012
I'm sure this was user error, but my beef never got crispy. Just greasy and soggy, even though the oil was hot, and I'd shaken off the excess cornstarch. I let it continue cooking until browned. Even though I didn't achieve "crispy" I thought this was very good, and very close to what we would have at our local Asian restaurant. I would have been happy to make it again, but my family did not love the flavor. Tangy citrus may not appeal to everyone. Still, I thought the sauce and recipe were great. I paired with jasmine rice and the steamed broccoli.

Banana Banana Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2012
This is a great recipe. I added a cup of chopped pecans each time, with wonderful results. The first time, I baked everything in one bread pan, and it took about an hour and fifteen minutes to finish baking. The second time, I divided it between two for two loafs. One hour was perfect. Thanks for sharing this recipe!

Patriotic Gelatin Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2012
Made this for 4th of July, and it turned out gorgeous. Everyone was really impressed. My bottom layer separated from the rest, getting a little raggedy in the process, but I managed to push it back under, and no one noticed. Also, we did not care for the taste of the white layer. Perhaps others had a different result, but consistency and taste-wise, it seemed like a mouthful of ricotta. I like ricotta, but not with my jello. I think next time I may experiment with heavy cream or condensed milk, mixed with the clear gelatin and sour cream. I could be wrong, but I think softening the gelatin in cold water, rather than dissolving it in hot, gave that layer a somewhat curdled effect. Still, I loved this dessert, and will make it again.

Nanaimo Bars III

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2012
Excellent! Very rich. I doubled the recipe and made in a 8 x 13 pan. I also followed the suggestion of one of the reviewers and used the digestive wafers instead of the graham crackers. I'm from Texas, so this was an unfamiliar dessert to me, but I know I'll be making it again. The family loved!

Strawberry Pie

Reviewed: May 28, 2012
This is a simple, but fantastic, pie recipe. It's cool and refreshing, and perfect for summer. My family loves it so much that I always have to make at least two at a time.

Angela's Awesome Enchiladas

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2011
These were delicious! I made one 9 x 13 pan of these, which worked out to seven enchiladas (rather than 5) and still had leftover chicken at the end, which I'll use to make a tortilla stack or something this weekend. I think the cheese inside the enchiladas is good, but can certainly be optional, as there is plenty of cheese on top. Great recipe! Thanks for sharing it.

Easy Tilapia with Wine and Tomatoes

Reviewed: Aug. 23, 2011
This recipe was surprisingly awesome! Very fast and easy to make, and my whole family, including my 9 and 13 year olds, devoured. All I had on hand was the cheapie cooking white wine. It worked great. Served with some a steamed mix of asparagus/brocoli/squash. I will make again very soon.

Jalapeno Strawberry Jam

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2011
Like others posting here, this was my first time making jam/jelly. What a great result! This is a very pretty jam, great for giving, and tastes great as well. My husband and daughter don't like anything spicy, so they were reluctant to try it, but as reported, there's just a great strawberry-jalapeno flavor without the bite. We ate it with cream cheese and crackers, but I think it would be fantastic over vanilla ice cream as well.

Jamie's Cranberry Spinach Salad

This is a great salad! Very tasty, except I think next time I will use half the amount of oil in the dressing.

Sturdy Whipped Cream Frosting

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2011
This is a very tasty frosting that I will be using often! I made it with almond extract and a couple of drops of yellow foodcoloring, for cupcakes. I did not add milk, but think it could have used at least a splash or drizzle as the results were very firm--so firm, I broke my Wilton frosting gun for pressing so hard on the trigger. I know another reviewer commented on not caring for the texture. The texture was great on the cupcakes I decorated with the gun, but once that had broken, I spread the frosting with a knife, and the appearance wasn't as pretty/smooth. Stil, it's a wonderful recipe. Thanks for sharing!

Hearty Hamburger Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2011
My family loved this soup. It was especially great because I almost always have these ingredients on-hand. I did not change the recipe, and served with cornbread muffins. The flavor is even better the next day.

Cranberry Oat Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2010
These are great cookies! My daughter and I made them exactly as instructed in the recipe. They are very tasty! One thing you may want to know is that they do not change shape/flatten much during baking, so they come out in mounded shapes. They look beautiful in holiday tins, and we are giving them as gifts to teachers.

Chewy Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2010
This is a great recipe that everyone in my family loved. We cooked half on a textured single layer cookie sheet, and the other half on a smooth, insulated (two layer) cookie sheet. The ones on the single sheet came out perfect, whereas those on the insulated sheet flattened out and got crumbly on the edges, making them hard to get off the sheet. Great recipe! Glad to have found it!

Catfish Cakes

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2010
Excellent! I doubled the recipe, and only had one sleeve of the buttery round crackers, so added saltines to make up for the remainder. The cakes came out beautiful, and the family loved them.

Dawn's Easy Red Velvet Sandwich Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2010
These sandwich cookies are fantastic! Not only do they taste great, they are very attractive and make a great presentation. I've given them as gifts in clear cellophane bags, tied with ribbon. If you're in a hurry, substitute store bought cream cheese icing for the homemade.

Original Homemade Italian Beef

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2009
This meal is so easy and delicious, I've already shared it with a number of friends. It's perfect for a working person to throw together in the morning. When you come home, just a few moments shredding with the fork, toasting up some hoagie rolls, and you're ready to go. The leftovers are fantastic as well.

Actually Delicious Turkey Burgers

This is one of those deceptively simple recipes that we should all be able to figure our outselves, but don't. This cooked up very tasty, and held together nicely on the grill. Perfect!
