About this Cook
I'm a mother and a grandmother. I hadn't baked much since my (now grown) kids were young but, I'm getting back into it now that I have grandbabies who will eat the results. I never thought I'd be baking so many cakes & cookies again. It's really fun!
My favorite things to cook
Any kind of fish (I live close to the coast with very fresh fish available) and lots of soups since it's been FREEZING here. I cannot wait for summer when I can cook whatever looks good at the farmer's market. I love the baby squash & fresh corn.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every year on my daughter's birthday, she invites some friends over and I have to cook whatever menu she picked out, even if it's something I never tried before. She does give me a couple of weeks notice so I can do my research. Her request for creme brulee started me on a year long kick of trying all different creme brulee recipes until I made it as well, or better, than any restaurant. I also make an awesome key lime pie for my husband's birthday every year.
My cooking triumphs
When my son was in cub scouts, they had a "Christmas Around the World" pack meeting party with each troop making dishes from different countries and sharing them with the rest of the pack. Our troop got Korea, a country where few people celebrate Christmas. I make a salad using traditional Korean ingredients and utensils and, I ended up teaching almost 100 little boys to use chopsticks.
My cooking tragedies
I was making a "champagne chicken". When I poured the bottle of champagne into the pot, the flames shot up about 5 feet. I was so shocked, I stood and watched for a minute before I recovered and put the lid on the pan. It burned the bottom of the cabinet over the stove and that had to be removed but, it's been replaced with a range hood with fan & light that probably should have been there all along. I don't know how I cooked without that light.

Pretty Chicken Marinade
I never thought I'd find find such a different recipe after cooking for many, many years. It really is delicious and easy to make. I do cut down on the oil and liquid smoke. I use half of what's called for just because it seemed like too much to me. It might be even better with full amounts but I like it the way I make it. I've gotten rave reviews from picky eaters including my 4 YO grandson and my 88 YO mother. Thanks so much for a great, original recipe!

Oatmeal Butterscotch Cookies
I will be making these over and over! I was short on the butterscotch chips but, my mom wanted oatmeal raisin so I split the dough and some got raisins, some got butterscotch chip and some had both. I did take other people's advice and used a full cup of butter. These were outrageously good!

Broiled Scallops
I thought this really needed more flavor. It was much too blah. Not tough at all and to the person that wrote that baking toughens scallops, it doesn't. Overcooking, no matter how you cook them, toughens scallops.
