First time Orange Beef

Orange Beef is my favorite Chinese dish.  I order it often.  I've never attempted to make it, until I was searching for another recipe - I can't remember what - and this recipe popped up.

It was tasty and I will make it again, but I don't think it's exactly like the Orange Beef I get from most restaurants.

What went right: the beef was crispy and tasty
What went wrong: when I poured the hot oil into a jar, reserving 1 Tablespoon, the bottom of the jar blew out.  It's still sitting in the sink - a bottomless jar, glass shards and grease - waiting for my husband to come home and deal with it.

Leaving the broken jar is exactly what my wife would do! ... Orange beef? I don't think I have had it. The recipe is enticing and I may make it this weekend. Thank you!

BTW! Those are a pair of beautiful Dobermans! My neighbor had one that was fun to watch, he was always doing something with sticks or rocks!

This is one of my favorites as well, though I've never made anything deep fried at home. I would deep fry so infrequently (She Who Must Be Obeyed doesn't approve) that the oil would be wasted. One of the nearby Asian restaurants serves tangerine beef, which I love! I think I might try this next time my wife is in town. It might change her mind about fried foods!

Next time add a kitchen knife to the jar before you add the grease. It absorbs the heat.

Thanks for the suggestion about the kitchen knife. I've never had a jar explode like that before. I think the grease was hotter than normal. It sure did fry the beef nicely though! We have a deep fryer and I might try frying the beef in that next time. Just to see... Mike, thanks for the compliment on my Dobermans. I run a Doberman rescue group so I'll probably always have at least one. Right now I have three, plus a Doberman/Rottweiler mix.
