Kalua Pig in a Slow Cooker

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2013
I'm from Hawaii, and this IS a great starter recipe! Once the pork is done cooking, I remove it from the slow cooker (save the drippings), shred it, and add a small cabbage (quartered), and 1 large sweet Maui onion (sliced). I toss it with the pork and juices, and 1 tbl. shouyu and, add it back into the slow cooker. I cover it, put it on medium, and cook for an additional 45 minutes to soften the cabbage and onions. If I'm pressed for time, I've also sauteed the cabbage and onions to decrease the cooking time. This also goes great with a nice coleslaw and pineapple salad on the side. (P.S. Choosing a good Hawaiian Sea Salt is important...look for the words "Alae" in the title. Amazon carries a few).

Chef John's Beef Sliders

Reviewed: May 23, 2014
Great base recipe, but I needed more flavor. So I made a few simple changes: First: I seasoned my beef before cooking by adding chopped garlic. Second: I added one part Blazin' Burger seasoning to the dressing. Third: I used Hawaiian Sweet Bread dinner rolls, and topped each burger with a small piece of pineapple, and a slice of jalapeno. *Alternative dressing is sweet chili sauce; adjusting the heat with hot pepper flakes. This was 'ONO (which means DELICIOUS in Hawaiian)!!

Sweet Teriyaki Beef Skewers

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2014
Great recipe! I added a touch of sesame oil and finely chopped green onions into the marinade for added flavor. Don't forget to soak your wood skewers before using them.

Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings

Great recipe! The only thing I added were some chunks of sweet potatoes and chicken bullion cubes for more flavor, along with liquid chicken stock instead of water........YUMO!

The recipe was great! I made just 2 substitutions: I subbed sweet Maui onion for the red onion, and dried blueberries for raisins....DELICIOUS!

Brazilian Black Bean Stew

Reviewed: Sep. 16, 2013
This is a yummy, versitile dish, with or without meat. I'v made this multiple times, and even substituted Portuguese sausage for Chorizo. The flavors blended was WONDERFUL! (P.S. you could even substitute Okinawan Sweet Potato, and have a Brazillian-Okinawan fusion dish that looks and tastes incredible as well).
