Tom's Down To The Bone Pork Chops!

Reviewed: Aug. 9, 2014
Recipe Group: I really wanted to like this...I think I did something wrong? My breading was soggy :( Have never worked with Panko before but from all I've heard it is crispy...this was not crispy...could have used too much mayo? Got the wrong chops? Will have to try again next time chops go on sale because the flavor was great!

Ham and Cheese Crescent Roll-Ups

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2014
Nice and quick for a weeknight dinner...I felt just a bit guilty serving them, as they are quite greasy and salty...big green salad makes a good accompaniment!

Peppered Green Beans

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2014
Yummy! Made a half recipe with some fresh-from-the-garden beans that I blanched for three minutes. Instead of pepper flakes (I'm a spice wimp) I used a roasted garlic pepper blend. The vinegar was subtle and delicious. Went great with my meatball sammies, thanks for sharing the recipe!

Praline Pecan French Toast

Reviewed: Jul. 22, 2014
Sweet and scrumptious! My son requested this for his birthday brunch and it certainly delivered. I used some half and half but mostly 2% milk. My loaf was a bit small so I did have some eggy corners. Also ran out of time so I did not toast the pecans. All in all very good for a special morning, thanks for sharing the recipe!

Spicy Indian (Gujarati) Green Beans

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2014
Very tasty! The only change I made was to use half a fresh hot pepper, instead of a dried one...I don't like a lot of spice :) The browned up garlic bits were delicious! I did think it turned out too oily, maybe less next time. Great way to use up the first batch of garden beans this year, thanks for sharing the recipe!

Frozen Peanut Butter Pudding Squares

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2014
Recipe Group: Good stuff... I found it strangely salty, maybe my peanut butter. I have always had a thing for peanut butter and graham crackers, this is taking it up a notch! I used waaaay more than a tablespoon of pudding mix per sandwich, and there was enough filling for 24 sandwiches (which is exactly one box of the 'fresh stack' Honey Maids). I didn't precisely melt the pb, I just used the soften feature on my micro, and did not find the need for step 2. Can't wait to share these special treats, thanks for sharing the recipe!

Father's Day Mancake Pancakes

Reviewed: Jul. 11, 2014
We enjoyed this recipe as a nice change from regular pancakes. I loved the sweetness, and the candied bacon was awesome. The beer was detectable but not overwhelming, and gave the pancakes a fabulous aroma...the burned sugar drippings in the oven, not so much...will make again for a special morning (or dinner, as it were). Thanks for sharing!

Sausage Gravy III

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2014
Best comfort food ever! I used bacon grease instead of margarine. Took too long to thicken so I ended up adding a bit of cornstarch slurry...next time maybe a hair more flour and a hair less milk. Added some ground sage during the salt and pepper part of the process. And couldn't help myself...added a medium onion at the very beginning! Can't wait for leftovers before work tomorrow morning!

Healthy Garden Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 1, 2014
So good. Used olive oil instead of grapeseed (sorry, I'm cheap). Other than that...stuck to it! My corn was roasted at a fair and cut off, frozen, and gifted to me :) so it was really good. My black beans were not from a can, but a batch I cooked myself with just water and a bay leaf. My cherry tomatoes were really grape tomatoes, I prefer the flavor. The only thing I would say is that I had to salt mine at the table...maybe because there was no salt in my beans? I marinaded for about 4 hours. The edamame was a lovely addition and we enjoyed this with our burger night. Thanks for sharing the recipe!

Cheddar Bacon Hamburgers with Horseradish

Reviewed: Jul. 1, 2014
RECIPE GROUP: whoooo were my eyes watering when mixing up these burgers! But, they turned out very moist and very tasty. I used real bacon crumbles but otherwise followed the recipe exactly. I mixed them up and formed the patties, then chilled for a few hours before DBF grilled them up. Served on homemade onion buns, scrumptious!

Poulet a la Grecque

Reviewed: Jun. 26, 2014
Sooo delicious. Came together very quickly also. I did not have shallots, but did use more garlic. Also instead of two cups white wine, I used one cup of white cooking wine and one of homemade turkey broth. I did not cover while simmering, my sauce was still soupy a bit, but delicious. Loved the raisins, will make this again...

Classic Greek Spinach

Reviewed: Jun. 26, 2014
This is a wonderful blend of flavors! It does NOT fit in a medium saucepan, however... I did cut the oil in half. The only other change I made was to use instant brown rice, because I was in a hurry. Turned out a bit soupy, so I wonder if next time I could skip the last cup of water...otherwise this recipe turned out great! Thanks for sharing!

Picnic Marinated Summer Slaw

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2014
RECIPE GROUP: This was very good, especially when you throw in 'ease of use'...I made half recipe, and couldn't find shredded cabbage so chopped my own. Dressing was sweet and soooo tasty. Used a whole Roma tomato for the half recipe. Yum. Marinated two hours before supper, I look forward to further marinated goodness at lunch tomorrow!

Whiskey Hamburgers

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2014
Loved it! Used Guinness and Jack...what else is there? For those of you scaling the recipe to 4, that's 2 T of whiskey. Great with spinach and BBQ sauce on top....or just by itself....

Indian Saffron Rice

Reviewed: Jun. 10, 2014
Yum! The texture of my rice was perfect...rice is hit or miss for me usually. My first time using saffron, I had threads not powdered...followed the recipe exactly otherwise. Next time, less salt, think it overpowered the saffron just a hair.

Easy Garam Masala

Reviewed: Jun. 10, 2014
Having never had this spice blend before I've nothing to compare it to...however, the recipe I made it for ('Chicken Shawarmas' from this site) was scrumptious and now I can't wait to find more recipes using this fabulous spice combo. The only change I made was having to grind up my coriander, only had whole on hand. Thanks for saving me from sticker shock at the grocery store!

Chicken Shawarmas

Reviewed: Jun. 10, 2014
RECIPE GROUP: Yum yum yum. DBF actually said, out loud, "it's like a party in my mouth!" He doesn't really talk like that, so, obviously this was a huge win. It was super easy too, once I got past the garam masala (had sticker shock at the grocery store so decided to make my own, using 'Easy Garam Masala' from this site). Somehow managed to run out of fresh garlic so had to use powder :( but that won't happen again! Helped that my pickles were homemade and super garlicky. Loved the ease of preparation and fabulous flavor, can't wait to make again!
