I live with my boyfriend of 10 years, and have a son (11 years old), 2 cats, and a wonderful dog. I enjoy reading and am active on paperbackswap.com; whenever I have a spare minute I have my nose buried in a book, which DBF loves to tease me about. I love to garden and to can the results :)
My favorite things to cook
I love to have people over so I can try new recipes on them; I'm always making new recipes or changing old ones. I enjoy baking sweet stuff the most. Also, I love the way fresh bread makes the house smell. Brunch every other month at my place!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Homemade cakes for every birthday. Also, Halloween themed Jello molds :D My son loves to help in the kitchen, which I think is great. I hope one of his favorite memories is helping in the kitchen with me. We also garden all summer, and he gets to see firsthand where the food is coming from. We harvest, process, and eat the veggies all in one day, and this is one 11-year-old that loves his veggies; I will never need one of those 'hide vegetables in your spaghetti sauce' cookbooks!
My cooking triumphs
Recently finally managed to make an omelet! Pretty sad. Also pretty proud of the Lego cake I made for the 8th birthday.
My cooking tragedies
Trying to make fried apples on the electric stove after moving...charcoal! Need to get used to these burners!

Banana Bread from Mott's(R)
Great banana flavor. After reading the reviews I used a loaf pan but also filled 5 muffin cups...bread still got pretty high but did not overflow :) I baked at 375 in my convection oven, the muffins took about 20 minutes, the loaf was spot on at an hour but did darken considerably. I accidentally doubled the allspice but otherwise made no changes. Next time I'll do 6 muffins and tent the loaf with foil. Thanks Mott's!

Slow Cooker Chicken Pozole Blanco
This was very good! I've never had anything like it before. I completely forgot to add lime juice, but the only other change I made was to use Mexican oregano. I served with sour cream and avocado toppings, and made spinach and mushroom quesedillas to go with. Great meal, thanks Mazola for the recipe!

Blueberry Delight Muffins
Great bakery muffin flavor! I couldn't find Blueberry Delight so I chose Country Berry, a mix of strawberry, raspberry and blueberry. I used frozen organic wild blueberries, and subbed corn oil for canola. The crumble topping is spectacular! I baked in my convection oven at 350 and they took about 20 minutes. 12 perfect sized muffins. Thanks Mott's!
