About this Cook
I live with my boyfriend of 9 years, and have a son (10 years old), 2 cats, and a wonderful dog. I enjoy reading and am active on paperbackswap.com; whenever I have a spare minute I have my nose buried in a book, which DBF loves to tease me about. I love to garden and to can the results :)
My favorite things to cook
I love to have people over so I can try new recipes on them; I'm always making new recipes or changing old ones. I enjoy baking sweet stuff the most. Also, I love the way fresh bread makes the house smell.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Homemade cakes for every birthday. Also, Halloween themed Jello molds :D My son loves to help in the kitchen, which I think is great. I hope one of his favorite memories is helping in the kitchen with me. We also garden all summer, and he gets to see firsthand where the food is coming from. We harvest, process, and eat the veggies all in one day, and this is one 10-year-old that loves his veggies; I will never need one of those 'hide vegetables in your spaghetti sauce' cookbooks!
My cooking triumphs
Recently finally managed to make an omelet! Pretty sad. Also pretty proud of the Lego cake I made for the 8th birthday.
My cooking tragedies
Trying to make fried apples on the electric stove after moving...charcoal! Need to get used to these burners!

Frozen Peanut Butter Pudding Squares
Recipe Group: Good stuff... I found it strangely salty, maybe my peanut butter. I have always had a thing for peanut butter and graham crackers, this is taking it up a notch! I used waaaay more than a tablespoon of pudding mix per sandwich, and there was enough filling for 24 sandwiches (which is exactly one box of the 'fresh stack' Honey Maids). I didn't precisely melt the pb, I just used the soften feature on my micro, and did not find the need for step 2. Can't wait to share these special treats, thanks for sharing the recipe!

Father's Day Mancake Pancakes
We enjoyed this recipe as a nice change from regular pancakes. I loved the sweetness, and the candied bacon was awesome. The beer was detectable but not overwhelming, and gave the pancakes a fabulous aroma...the burned sugar drippings in the oven, not so much...will make again for a special morning (or dinner, as it were). Thanks for sharing!

Sausage Gravy III
Best comfort food ever! I used bacon grease instead of margarine. Took too long to thicken so I ended up adding a bit of cornstarch slurry...next time maybe a hair more flour and a hair less milk. Added some ground sage during the salt and pepper part of the process. And couldn't help myself...added a medium onion at the very beginning! Can't wait for leftovers before work tomorrow morning!
