About this Cook
My cooking tragedies
23 years ago, when I was first married, I decided to try a dessert recipe from Gourmet magazine. A layered, 2 hour prep type of cake. Everything went fine until the assembly and well, it didn’t assemble. This was for a family Thanksgiving get together and luckily my mother and I had the same china as I ended up putting individual servings into desert bowls and decorating them!

Easy Tangy Cucumber Salad
I always try the basic recipe first. It is very good as is and what I liked is that it is different than the cucumber salads we are all used to. (vinegar, sour cream based) It does have a different taste but is great for a change of pace. It is very adaptable and I tried using 1 tsp of sesame oil (this was doubling the marinade since I had read reviews so was a 3 to 1 ratio) I also added green onion and some tomato right before serving. It is very easy to adjust the tartness or sweetness. May never be your 'favorite' cucumber salad, but it is very good. Give it a try... it is very fast and you don't waste expensive ingredients and with some new experiments!

Carmel's Crunchy Pea Salad
Pleasantly surprised. Love peas and wanted something new to make. Sounded kinda bland but tried it. It really is good! Really, really good. I always read the reviews and people are always changing the original so that doesn't help me decide. I always make it the way it was written first. I do like the idea of adding ranch dressing and may try that sometime but the original version is very tasty. Give it a try if you're giving it a thought.
