Black Chocolate Cake

This came out beautifully. I subbed coffee for the water and butter for the shortening. I am a beginning baker who is always looking for simple, straightforward, fail-proof recipes and this is one of them. It is fast and has a great chocolate flavor. I made it with a vanilla cream cheese frosting but it could be dressed up in so many ways. Probably makes great cupcakes too! Thanks Jeanie Bean, I will definitely be making this again.

Butter Flaky Pie Crust

Really great, fool proof, easy pastry recipe. Why do anything more difficult when this one is so good? I actually used it to make some jam tarts. It is very versatile. I rolled it out after only 1.5 hrs and it came out great. The reviewer who had a hard time getting her dough to come together in a ball probably did not actually use her hands to form it into a ball. This will be my permanent recipe.

Glazed Almond Bundt Cake

This cake comes out perfect. I am not an experienced baker and I got many compliments on this cake. It is a good base cake recipe that can be made with many modifications. I made it with 2 tsp lemon extract instead of almond extract and an orange glaze and it was really really great. Will make again.

Russian Tea Cakes I

Amazing recipe, foolproof. I even made a miscalculation and had to add 1/2 cup of flour at the end and they still came out beautiful. The walnuts must be very finely ground. I actually crushed mine in a ziplock back with the bottom of a coffee cup :) Will make again.

Banana Bran Muffins

Great recipe, and it is easy to make subsitutions to make them healthy: I used whole wheat flour and applesauce for half of the butter. Also added 1 1/2 Tbs. flax seed and 1 cup rum-soaked raisins in place of one of the bananas. These are great for school snacks- they keep you going and taste so good!

Whole Wheat Beer Bread

This bread came out perfect! I used Blue Moon Belgian Ale and all whole wheat flour and also added an egg. It was great, and very easy to make.
