The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2006
If I can't screw this up, then no one can! It was pretty tasty and easy to handle if refrigerated and rolled out with powdered sugar. My only complaint is if you like a thick cookie (like my husband), then they tend to be a bit doughy, but if you roll them out thin, they really are great, especially frosted with the sugar cookie frosting recipe on this site. I will use this as my new staple recipe for rollouts.

Baked Spaghetti I

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2006
I really wanted to love this recipe, but my instincts told me anything with a can of creamed soup dumped on the top is not a good idea... they were right! I don't use jarred sauces, but if I had a jar of spag sauce, I would've dumped it in too. This was dry, bland and very unappealing to the eye. I froze the leftovers, but I have a feeling they will be in there for a long time to come. I'm sorry, just not for us I guess.

Apple Cake IV

Pretty good cake. A bit dry, maybe next time I will use applesauce instead of oil. I drizzled with a cream cheese glaze for a little treat.

Good recipe, great flavor combos. Not a hit with the meat eaters in my house, but that was resolved by adding chicken.

Mandarin Orange Chicken

This recipe needs something, although I don't know what....perhaps a good spice blend. I was disappointed with the blandness. Good concept, but won't make again unless I tweak it first.

This is good, but next time I will cut back the corn syrup, it made it too sweet. Great recipe though!

Chicken Gruyere with Sauteed Mushrooms

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2006
Take the time to call around and find real gruyere cheese, it is so worth it! This is a new family fave. It is quite rich though, beware. I deglazed with a splash of white wine for an extra kick of flavor. Thanks for sharing!

Smothered Green Beans

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2006
Next time, I will drain half the bacon grease as it was too greasy for me. I deglazed with a tiny splash of white wine and added water only as needed. I like a sauteed bean that isn't too soggy.

Herb, Garlic and Bacon Pork Loin

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2006
This was great, didn't change a thing. I am not a fan of pork roasts or pork in general because I grew up with dry pork chops! This however, was juicy and very flavorful. My 3yr old loved it too.

World's Best Lasagna

Reviewed: Sep. 12, 2006
This held together well and had a great consistency. Next time, I will use only one can of paste as I thought it was too tomatoey. I did not pre cook my noodles and they were perfect texture. Good combination of spices and seasonings -- definitely a keeper basic lasagna recipe.

Fresh Pineapple Upside Down Cake

This is a pretty good cake. My husband thought it was too dense and moist. It is a heavy cake, but great flavour. It was a great way to use up fresh pineapple. Followed the recipe exactly.

Chocolate Cheesecake I

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2005
I would never have guessed that just 1 cup of plain old chocolate chips could give this such a rich flavor. It is a great base recipe as well with a good texture. Next time, I may try fancy dark chocolate instead to see what happens.

Chicken Enchiladas II

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2005
These are good if you are looking for a creamy style enchilada. When I was preparing the sauce, I was hesitant about the "soupy" taste, but after baking, the flavors blended better. I still prefer a traditional red sauce enchilada, but my husband liked these better.
