Mom's Zucchini Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2006
I agree with some of the other reviewers. It tasted more like cake. Next time I will cut down the sugar - maybe just use 2 cups.

Okonomiyaki

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2006
I see so much potential in this dish. I love that there's so many vegetables. But the batter was too doughy and there wasn't enough flavor. I have seen other okonomiyaki recipes using dashi and yakisoba. That sounds more flavorful and I will try those recipes next time.

Slow-Cooker Chicken Tortilla Soup

This was good. But I have had better tortilla soup. I will continue looking for that best tortilla soup recipe.

Chutney Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2006
I thought the sweet flavor with the onion was an odd taste. I think I will try to make Chutney Chicken again but without the onion mix. I would try this with more salt so that it would taste sweet and salty.

London Broil II

Reviewed: Jul. 8, 2006
Easy and tasted good. I used london broil, marinated for 24 hours, and broiled 12 minutes per side. It wasn't as flavorful as I had hoped but it was tender enough. Next time I will rub the meat with ground black pepper and take the advice of one of the reviewers by using 1.5 T of soy sauce and 1.5 T of Worcestershire. Maybe that will add more flavor.

Mexican Wedding Cakes II

Reviewed: Jul. 8, 2006
Really disappointed in this. A Mexican neighbor gave us Mexican wedding cakes but this recipe didn't even come close to how flakey her cakes were. Also, I think this needs more vanilla extract, I don't even taste it.

Lime Chicken Soft Tacos

Reviewed: Jul. 8, 2006
This was good, but I was really hoping for a similar flavor as the tacos I get from taquerias. I'd say this recipe a good Americanized taco.

Grilled Chicken & Vegetable Kabobs

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2006
Absolutely wonderful! And amazingly easy! I've tried so many grilled chicken marinades using yogurt, lemon juice and a million other ingredients. This recipe only requires a few great ingredients and results in a delicious dish! I marinated the whole chicken breasts for 2 hours, cubed them and put them on skewers with zuchinni, mushroom, red onion and yellow peppers. It came out tender and delicious. My guests love it!

Carrot Rice

Reviewed: May 17, 2006
Nothing special. It isn't worth grating the carrots and cooking rice when this dish isn't that flavorful or memorable.

Personally, this is a little on the sweet side and I don't like my salads sweet. But my guests and husband love this!

Florentine Artichoke Dip

Reviewed: May 14, 2005
I just don't see why I should bother making this forgettable dip when there are delicious ready-made dips are gourmet grocers (trader joe's).

Chinese Napa Cabbage Salad

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2004
This is so delicious! I’ve made it several times now. I haven’t made it with sesame seed yet (I’m too cheap to spend $5+ on sesame seeds), but it’s great anyways. I used 1 tablespoon of butter (don’t like it too buttery) and use only 3/4 of the seasoning packet (don’t like it too salty). I suggest buying the better ramen brand as you can tell the difference. It's always a hit at parties and I could finish the entire bowl myself!

Christmas Breakfast Sausage Casserole

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2004
Based on previous reviews, I was really expecting this dish to wow me – but it’s a pretty mundane dish. I used whole wheat bread cubes and 6 oz pepper jack cheese with 4 oz sharp cheddar cheese (I was trying to add more kick). I agree with the reviewer that said if you love eggs and sausage you will love it regardless of how it's prepared. In the end I don't think that all that preparation and cooking time was worth the taste of the casserole. It may have been more interesting with green onions and a dash of Tobassco, and add a layer of cheese to the top just before you take it out of the oven. Whatever. I’m still looking to be wowed by a sausage casserole so I’m going to try the other sausage casserole recipes with additional ingredients.

Herb Rubbed Sirloin Tip Roast

Very good. I used this on grilled tri-tip. My husband, who loves spicy food, loves this. But it isn't so spicy to serve for most other people.

No-Fry Spicy Potato Skins

The texture and flavor was great! Next time I will sprinkle cheese on top (since it's baked, I don't think I'll feel guilty about doing that).

Guacamole

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2004
This was good. I agree with the other reviewer who suggested to use juice from 3/4 of a lime. I also did not pass up the cayenne pepper. Next time I'll add a jalapeno pepper for more kick!

Mahogany Chicken Wings

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2004
I marinated the wings for 3 hours and still felt like the flavors didn't get into the chicken meat. I initially browned each side of the wings in the broiler (5 minutes per side), then reduced the heat to 375 F for about 50 minutes. I thickened the sauce with cornstarch (as suggested by one reviewer) and used it for basting. I reserved some sauce for dipping. The cooked sauce was just too sweet and all the marinating, basting and sauce thickening wasn't worth it when you can buy some ready made sweet/spicy wings in the supermarkets.
