Im and average Joe that loves to cook/bake and learn while doing so. I have not professional training, but I have done ton of research and have plenty of cook time to hold my own. If I had the opportunity and time I would love to take culinary classes. I do a fair amount of traveling, which feeds my appetite to learn how to prepare different types of cuisine. If it is a matter of trying a recipe multiple times to perfect it I will do just that. I also have learned that when cooking a pen and paper are as useful as the pots and pans. The better notes I take the better results I get the next time.
My favorite things to cook
I have always enjoyed cooking and trying new things. Over the past few years I have developed a taste for both Traditional and Americanized Asian dishes. This has motivated me into researching and learning how to prepare a variety of Asian dishes. I have mastered some and miserably failed at others, but my love for cooking has kept me going. I also love to bake one of my favorite baking recipes to make are clairs and The Motherload Chocolate Cake.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Cooking Cookies during the holidays and Elcairs when family visits
My cooking triumphs
My wife has the biggest sweet tooth of anyone I know, so for her 30th birthday I made her a 7-layer chocolate cake from scratch. It was unbelievable and everyone said it was the best cake they had ever had. The only thing that could bet this is if I could master the General Tso Chicken sauce, so that it tastes like my local restaurant.
My cooking tragedies
Besides trying to make a General Tso sauce that taste like my local restaurant it would have to be their basic sweet and sour sauce. You know the basic yellowish colored sauce that you use on your egg rolls. Well a few weekends back I made 15 different sauces. I figured if I made them all at once I could determine which ones were the closest and then narrow it down to some minor tweaking. Unfortunately none of them were what I was looking for. I posted the results on an Asian Recipe web page and received another recipe. It was pretty basic and so far it has been the closest. If anyone has a basic yellowish sweet n sour recipe like the kind you find as most buffet style Chineses restaurants I would greatly appreciate it if you e-mailed it to me at firstname.lastname@example.org give it a subject of sweet n sour sauce, so I dont delete it. Thanks,
