Hello all, I'm Kitsune. I live in the middle of nowhere with my charming boyfriend and our 3 naughty cats, and I work at a bank as a billing disputes specialist. Aside from cooking, some things I enjoy are books, gardening, tea, writing, painting, learning to play the Celtic harp, British TV (more than just Doctor Who, although I do love DW!), Japanese anime and manga, fairy and elf mythology, collecting crystals, Warhammer 40K, and spending time with friends. I'm a nerd and kind of a big kid, and probably always will be. But that's what makes me fun, right?
My favorite things to cook
For everyday meals I cook a lot of chicken and fish - my favorites are haddock, tuna, and cod. I like to try recipes from different countries (especially German, Russian, and various Asian cuisines). When I have time in the mornings, I also love to cook breakfast dishes - quiche, souffle, coffee cake, etc. I grow herbs in my backyard, so I love to cook with them every chance I get ^_^
My favorite family cooking traditions
We have a lot of German recipes that have been passed down in our family, as well as a spaghetti sauce recipe that is about 5 generations old now.
My father likes to cook meals and my mother always made the desserts, so I learned from both of them at a young age :3 My favorite family recipes are Spaetzle (German egg noodles) and of course our spaghetti sauce!
My cooking triumphs
I've never made a cheesecake that didn't turn out nicely ^_^ My favorite varieties to make are Meyer lemon, Black Forest, and pumpkin. The next recipe I want to try is for a Spumoni cheesecake!
Also, every generation of my family puts a slightly different spin on our spaghetti sauce recipe, and my version has been pretty popular ^_^ If I make a lot of it, I can add beans and seasonings to make a great chili the next day!
My cooking tragedies
I would say the worst one was my last-minute vegetarian enchiladas...it was the day before payday (always a sad day for food when you're in college) and I was trying to use up what we had in the fridge.
I think they would have been fine if I hadn't used the awful whole-wheat fat-free flour tortillas - it was like trying to eat wet, spicy cheese-stuffed cardboard o_O Heh...even the dog had no interest in them!
