English Roast Beef

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2005
I'm not always successful when I attempt to make a roast. I'm glad to say this roast turned out awesome. I was a bit wary of the mint but it ended up adding a really nice flavor to the meat and gravy. I think I'll try it without the clove of garlic next time. Thanks for the recipe.

Chocolate Coconut Bars

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2006
These bars deserve a better rating than 3 for their taste. They were pretty good. I was a bit disappointed because they looked pretty plain and I had a hard time getting them out of my baking dish. Mind you - that didn't stop my family from gobbling them up.

Spicy Strawberry Salad

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2004
What a great salad! I'm not sure why it's called 'spicy' but it's the best strawberry salad recipe I've come across. Be sure to whisk or beat the dressing thoroughly - the sugar doesn't dissolve properly if not mixed well. The dressing tastes even better the second day. Thanks for a great recipe :)

Ham 'N' Cheese Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2009
What an easy and tasty recipe. Husband and kids all enjoyed it. I was worried my dgtr wouldn't eat because of the onions but they didn't overpower the taste of the pie. I also halved the recipe and it turned out perfectly. I made in a glass pie plate and forgot to grease it - suprisingly nothing stuck to the plate! I found the biscuit/baking mix settled to the bottom of the cooked pie and formed a VERY thin crust.

Chicken, Feta Cheese, and Sun-Dried Tomato Wraps

Reviewed: Jun. 4, 2005
I really enjoyed the taste of this wrap. The flavor was wonderful. I made it exactly as the recipe indicated and found it wasn't quite enough to feed 3 adults. For dinner, we had one wrap each and two of us felt we could have easily shared another one. I would increase my ingredients next time to 6 servings to feed 4 people. Thanks for posting this recipe!

Greek Salad IV

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2008
I wanted to try a Greek salad without lettuce and gave this one a try. It was pretty good. I added 1/2 tsp of oregano flakes to the mixture prior to 'cooling' in the fridge. Next time I'd cut back on one of the tomatoes and add another pepper instead. Thanks for sharing.

Pecan French Toast

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2008
This was easy to make and tasted pretty good too. I loved how quickly it was to make the night before and there's minimal work in the morning. If you don't like the taste of orange - don't make this - it was quite strong. Thanks for sharing.

Five Spice Muffins

Reviewed: Sep. 19, 2007
We loved these muffins. What a great way to use a zucchini. My 5 year old daughter said they tasted just like pumpkin pie. I thought they were more like a dense spice cake. I didn't have any coriander so I didn't use it. I didn't cut back on any of the other spices and the taste was just right.

German Potato Pancakes

Reviewed: Aug. 6, 2007
I'd heard of potatoe pancakes before but had never made them. I tried this recipe and it didn't disappoint. They turned out great. My kids (5 & 8) said they were yummy and tasted just like the hash browns you get at Pembina Village (a local restaurant). I had to cook them longer than what was indicated but that might have been because I used an electric frying pan.

Grandma Johnson's Scones

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2006
Delicious. What a great recipe. I don't have a good track record with baking and this turned out perfect. Don't let the crumbly texture after you have added the sour cream mixture to the dry ingredients scare you. I just pressed it together a bit before turning it out on the counter and then kneeded it as the recipe instructs. We served them warm with butter. They took approximately 20 mins to brown in my oven. We put the leftovers in an airtight container and they tasted great the next day.

Sarah's Applesauce

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2005
A great dessert. My kids (3yrs and 6 yrs)loved it. Cooking it made the whole kitchen smell delicious. I think I will double the recipe next time as this made a very small portion for 2 adults and 2 kids.

Potato Salad I

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2004
Tasty potatoe salad. Everyone at our Canada Day Party enjoyed it. My grocery store was out of green peppers so I used sweet red peppers instead.

Salsa Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2004
A very good chicken recipe. Easy and very tasty. Be sure to watch your cooking time. The chicken pieces I used were medium size - I cooked them for 30 mins and after adding an additional 5 mins on to melt the cheese - the chicken was a little dry. I'll cut down the cooking time by about 5 mins next time.

Chicken Noodle Casserole II

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2009
I made this casserole yesterday and found it to be dry and didn't have too much flavour. In fairness I used 1% milk and perhaps should have used 2% instead. I also used 1/2 tsp of chili powder and should have used more. I'll try this recipe again as it was easy to prepare but will use 2% milk and more chili powder.

Savory Pork Roast

Reviewed: Oct. 9, 2009
What a delicious way to make a pork roast. I don't often use sage or marjoram - the combination with garlic was very tasty. Tasted great right out of the oven and again the next day right out of the fridge. Thanks for posting.

Hot Cross Buns I

Reviewed: Apr. 19, 2009
Making these buns was the first time I've ever used my breadmaker on the 'dough' cycle. I'd never worked with dough before so I was a bit nervous. I'm happy to say these hot cross buns turned out great! I added the icing sugar criss/cross to the top but, to be honest, I preferred the taste without. A nice easy recipe for a rookie baker to try :)

Mahogany Chicken Wings

Reviewed: Apr. 10, 2009
A very good recipe for chicken wings. I didn't have chili sauce so I substituted ketchup instead. This worked out for us as my kids don't enjoy anything with a 'kick'. Good to know ketchup can be used if necessary.

Chocolate Puffed Wheat Squares

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2009
I have tried many puffed wheat square recipes and it's one of the things that never turns our for me. I found this one wasn't sticky enough to stay together very well. The taste was good and my kids enjoyed eating it regardless of it's texture. Thanks for posting.

Scalloped Taters

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2008
This was great! Not good for people trying to watch their weight though. I didn't change the recipe and cooked in in my slow cooker on low for 4.5 hours. I wasn't sure what a 'cubed hash brown potatoe' was so I used McCain's Tasty Tators. After 4.5 hrs in slow cooker they broke apart but made a yummy side dish.

Snow on the Mountain Green Beans

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2008
I served this with Easter dinner. It was really good. The feta cheese gave it a saltier taste than we're used to but delicious all the same.
