Bakers beware...there is a discrepancy between the list of ingredients and the instructions. I was carefully following the written instructions when I made the filling. It says to use a cup of milk, so I did. I couldn't figure out why the filling didn't get as thick as I was expecting it to. I made another batch, thinking I hadn't cooked it long enough, but it wasn't any thicker. Finally, while assembling the layers and thinking, "this can't be right" I re-read the initial list of ingredients, which called for evaporated milk. I ended up baking the extra moisture out of the rest of the filling and ended up with a wonderful cake (in spite of the soggy first layer!)
