Turtle Pie

This is not really a pie as much as it is just a giant turtle in a pie crust. You have to cut the pieces so tiny that you might as well just make turtles. Very very rich, and don't over-cook the caramel, it gets chewy...like a turtle.

Boilermaker Tailgate Chili

Perfect recipe! I'm pregnant and watching fat and sodium, so I used 2 lbs. ground chicken instead of the other meats. I also used Sodium-free diced tomatoes and rinsed the beans, and I didn't have to add any extra salt other than the 1 tsp that the recipe calls for. I didn't use beer either, and this was just fine without it. I'm sure you can adjust the ingredients to your dietary needs as well, and it will still be delicious!

Pasta Carbonara I

It was a good base recipe, but really lacked flavor. I made it exactly per the instructions and ended up adding mushrooms, asparagus, garlic, and red pepper flakes for flavor.

Cheddar Cabbage Casserole

Good base recipe, but I personally didn't care for the cream of celery soup in there. I didn't think I'd be able to taste it, but it was pretty strong. Next time I will use cream of chicken or mushroom. I also used the packaged coleslaw mix (preshredded cabbage and carrots) and it was perfect for this. I did find it to be a little runny, so next time I'll add some grated parmesan or maybe more cornflakes. But overall it was a winner, my 2 year old even loved it :)

Mom's Best Meatloaf

The flavor was fantastic but I found the meatloaf to be a little too moist, almost wet. I think next time I'll try tomato paste instead of juice, or maybe just omit the water. I used bacon on top instead of the glaze, because meatloaf without bacon is just un-American :) Overall great recipe, try it, you'll love it!

Mom's Country Gravy

Everyone is definitely right about using bacon grease instead of oil or butter, otherwise it doesn't have that great country gravy flavor we're all looking for. But to give it that little something extra, my granny always used half evaporated milk and half regular milk...since gravy is not rich or fattening enough :)

Butternut Squash Supreme

This was such a delicious and easy recipe. Not to mention super inexpensive! I decided to try this one because my family really needed something new and healthy to try, and this one was a big hit. I ended up using breadcrumbs instead of the crackers and it turned out really well.
