One Bowl Chocolate Cake III

Reviewed: May 14, 2007
followed it EXACTLY with the exception of a little variation with the oven time, which is different for each oven. However, all i had to do is check the center with a toothpick. Ok, so it was a big hit, especially when i filled it with a layer of raspberry jam and thawed out raspberries, and a second layer of chocolate fudge. Then iced it with no other than chocolate icing (only a thin layer) then used chocolate shavings to decorate plus fresh strawberries on top (i was out of fresh raspberries). I was doubtful at first because the batter was runny. I'll try it again and again with different flavours (maybe some coffee, less cocoa poweder,...etc). Thank You

Grandma's Eggless, Butterless, Milkless Cake

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2005
My husband watches his cholesterol (no eggs, milk, butter, oil). This is perfect for him. I made half of recipe. Tasted the batter, felt the after taste of baking soda, so i sprinkled some brown sugar and it took care of that. Next time i'll use as suggested by others 2/3cup brown (or a mix of brown and white). I also added 1/4tsp salt (not sure for what but as suggested), also used 4tbsp of cocoa. Next time i'll try to lower amount of oil. Also, not sure if someone already tried to use honey or maple syrup instead of sugar, if so, please share your results. Overall, more than my husband can dream of. Finally he can have a chocolate cake and not feel guilty about it. Thanks

Strawberry Shortcake

Reviewed: Jun. 24, 2005
Here are my changes: used 2tsp baking powder, 1/4 cup sugar (i think it'll require 1/2 cup for sweeter taste), 1/2 cup shortening & 1/2tsp Vanilla, baked for 10-15min on middle rack in a muffin tray (good for 8 individual servings). It turned out very moist, fluffy and it solved the cracking problem. It was soft and easy to cut, not a single crumb. I also sprayed pam on the surface of batter before baking and sprinkled with sugar. This is my first time trying a shortcake, maybe there is better but so far this is good enough for my taste. Hope this will be of a help to others. Next time will experiment with less shortening.

Green Pea and Mint Soup

Reviewed: Apr. 15, 2005
tastes like peas and mint... that's it. Nothing special at all. No overpowering taste. Just imagine eating peas and little hint of mint with it. I was disappointed.

Best Spinach Dip Ever

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2004
I read all the good reviews and trusted that it was going to really turn out to be unbelievably tasty. It was so horrible. I followed the recipe to the dot. It had a very awful taste to it. Will not make it again for sure.

Pineapple Upside-Down Cake V

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2004
Loved it. Great presentation when using sliced pineapple pieces for the top half and each piece has a cherry in the center. It really looked beautiful. Taste is ok, i expected a little more pineapply taste. Will try to add more pineapple juice next time.

Ooey-Gooey Cinnamon Buns

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2004
LOVE IT. Everyone i know loved it as well. An elderly woman gave me a hug when i made them for her and told me that i was sent to her to give her the recipe because she searched everywhere to find a good recipe for her daughter. I wanted to get the credit for her, but of course, i couldn't. Thanks Jen. By the way, i've made this over 5 times already, and everytime i have to add more flour than suggested, also, i'd have to wrap each bun piece tighter after cutting. I can never get to roll it tight enough, does anyone have any suggestion of how to keep it tight?

Pistachio Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2004
I don't know what all the good ratings were about!! i followed everything exactly as directed. I ended up with a green loaf with the taste of the cake. No taste of pistachios at all. Same taste as yellow cake prepared from box. I'll definately NOT make it again. Very disappointed!
