I enjoy collecting recipes and even use some of them occasionally. I retired from teaching special ed, and before that, spent 22-plus years in the Air Force. I enjoy traveling, reading, walking, and meeting new people.
My favorite things to cook
Pasta main dishes, vegetable side dishes, muffins, fruit desserts
My favorite family cooking traditions
Lasagna, banana bread for Christmas giving, homemade split pea soup for the family
My cooking triumphs
I make a killer banana nut bread, have also gotten quite expert at turning out well-made pies, including lemon meringue and chocolate cream. My husband loves my split pea soup, too.
My cooking tragedies
I made a pecan pie that would not come out of the pan without a heavy-duty sawing knife, the crust was so embedded. Since then, I've learned to sprinkle flour on both sides of the crust before placing it in the pan. I have also been known to press graham cracker and other pastry crusts too firmly into the pan, making them difficult to cut.
