World's Best Lasagna

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2007
We really liked this, but the lasagna needed more sauce--may be my fault. I, like other reviewers, had a bunch of sauce left over. Once I tasted it, I wish I had used it all (but would have needed an even larger dish than 9 X 13). Also, we'll probably double the amount of ricotta next time. These changes would have given it 5*.

Potato Latkes I

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2007
I gave this 4 stars because of all of the modifications. This is what I did, and after 3 attempts, found the perfect proportions. 7-8 cups of SWEET potatoes, 1/2 FINELY grated onion, 5 eggs, 1 cup italian seasoning bread crumbs, and salt to taste. Also, I learned this time around that if the entire pancake moves when slightly touched by spatula, it's ready to flip over. If not, it will fall apart during the flip. YUM! Go Me! :-)

Jo's Rosemary Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2007
My family LOVED this bread! It was my first attempt to make the bread without using the bread machine. It was really easy and my husband ate half the loaf himself!

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2007
I've made these twice now. The first time I followed the recipe and they were SO bland. I mean, NO flavor at all. But, the second time I used three cups of sugar and two teaspoons of vanilla, and they were absolutely PERFECT! Those minor changes in the recipe made all the difference. Also, at first I waited until the edges of the cookie started to brown while baking--don't do that! The browned edges were crunchy and dry. The ones that had baked but not yet browned were so much better--nice and soft.

To Die For Blueberry Muffins

Reviewed: Aug. 23, 2007
Though the muffins were good, I also had the same experience as some of the other reviewers. If not for the blueberries and topping, the muffin has ZERO flavor. It would taste like all-purpose flour. Next time, I'm going to add either a little vanilla or almond extract. Also, filling the muffin tim to the rim, as suggested, is too much--everything just spilled over the top. Finally, I'll either have to half the amount of topping or double the amount of topping. With these changes, I would give this 5 stars. UPDATE: I added 1/2 tsp of vanilla to the batter and it made a BIG difference. The flavors in the muffin seemed to come out more and the muffin was really moist! It was a hit!

Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2007
PERFECT! I didn't change a thing, and these were AMAZING! Per the suggestion of another reviewer, I used a muffin tin: 20 minutes @ 375. They will definitely be making a regular appearance for Sunday family breakfasts!! Thank you for sharing this recipe!!!

Smoked Standing Rib Roast

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2007
Patience is a virtue. Now I know where that proverb originated . . . I prepared according to the review by Vorcha--seasoning under the ribs and fat cap, then tieing back. I let it cool overnight in the 'fridge. Cooking took me 10 Hrs but I stalled it after about 6 Hrs because I used a small, upright smoker and the meat was almost to temperature much quicker than I expected. So, for the remaining 4 Hrs I smoked the Prime Rib with those amazing bourbon-soaked hickory chips. I brought it back up to temperature in an hour for Christmas dinner and perfection!

Tastes like chicken pot pie! Instead of water, i used one can chicken broth. cooked chicken in the chicken broth, one can cream of celery, one can cream of chicken, 2 chicken boullion cubes, mixed frozen veggies, salt and pepper to taste. shredded chicken at the end and let it cook for another hour. added dumplings at the end. came out perfect!!

Glazed Meatloaf I

Reviewed: Jul. 24, 2006
YUM!!! This is so good! I only changed a couple of things: I substituted Lipton Onion Soup Mix for the chopped onion and doubled the quantity of the glaze. I will definitely make again and again!

Sarge's EZ Pulled Pork BBQ

Reviewed: May 27, 2006
WOW! I can't believe I actually made something this good! Based on other reviews, I also added liquid smoke and a jar of BBQ sauce, and upped the coffee to 1 cup. I also added Worchestire sauce, a packet of Lipton Onion Soup Mix, and 2 sm cans of tomato paste for thickness and a touch of sweetness. My husband LOVED it!

Cuban Midnight Sandwich

Reviewed: Apr. 2, 2006
This sandwich was AMAZING. Very good, easy to make, and quick--what else could you ask for in a meal? The only thing I will do differently next time is cook the sandwich on Low instead of Medium, allowing the meat and cheese to get warm before the bread is done.

Awesome Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2006
This is so amazing! I did change it around a little though, based on other reviews. Instead of water, I used a beef stock and substituted a can of cream of mushroom with roasted garlic, for the regular cream of mushroom. I also added and a small can of tomato paste for thickness. I threw in potatoes, carrots, and onions and let them cook all day too. It's sooo good! I'll definitely be making it again!
