Perfect Cheesecake Everytime

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2012
It was so difficult to turn the oven off at only 30 minutes! It was even harder to not peek! I had to trust the other reviewers on this and turn the oven off and not peek, and I was at war with my curious nature. Trusting in something not yet seen or experienced = FAITH : ) When I put the cheesecake in the oven, on a lower shelf I placed a 9x13 pan of water filled with hot water. The air was dry here today and I didn't want to risk it cracking. It turned out absolutely beautiful. Not a crack one, a beautiful vanilla color, rather than the darker brown color I get from other recipes. It looks very professional. I haven't tasted it yet, I am reviewing on faith that it is delicious, but giving it 5 stars on ease and appearance. It it doesn't taste like a five star cheesecake, I'll update this review. Thanks for sharing your recipe.

Hot Fudge Sauce I

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2012
I added about 2 rounded tablespoons of cocoa powder and boiled mine for around 6 minutes, stirring contantly. I didn't bother with the double boiler, I think that the reason some people had trouble with it being too thin and gritty was because it needed to boil for a few minutes. Mine was perfectly smooth thick sauce. I poured into a quart jar, and it was almost full. Thanks for sharing your recipe : )

Ladyfingers

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2012
Mine were flat so I couldn't cut them in half for my tiramisu. It didn't matter, they were still light and sweet, and worked perfectly for my tiramisu. I'm pretty sure I did something wrong to cause them to be so flat, over stirred maybe? I loved saving money making these at home, well worth the extra trouble. Thanks for the recipe!

Shaker Lemon Pie

Reviewed: Jun. 28, 2012
I rated it 5 stars, not based on my love for the recipe, but because the recipe is what it is...a Shaker Lemon Pie! It may not be my favorite lemon pie, but there is nothing wrong with the recipe, it is supposed to taste like this. I changed it a tad, I used 3 lemons and added 1/3 cup of sugar and used 5 eggs. I wanted a thick pie, I don't like thin fillings. After 24 hrs (no way would I bake this pie after it sitting only 4 hrs) I ran it through the blender to reduce the size of the pieces.

Raspberry Cream Cheese Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2012
Giving this 5 stars because my husband declared this the "most delicious coffee cake he's EVER TASTED!" I followed the recipe exactly with the exception of using strawberries instead of raspberry jam. I crushed some strawberries and cooked them with sugar, water and cornstarch until thickened. It was around 3/4 cup, and next time I think I will increase it to 1 cup. We ate this straight out of the oven, we couldn't even wait for it to cool! I think next time I might use peach or pear jam. The finished product makes a lovely presentation. Thanks for sharing this wonderful recipe

Chewy Brownie Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2012
Really good! Nice soft texture. I wanted the flavor of a brownie to take to the family get together, but wanted something kid friendly that would stretch further than a 9x13 pan of brownies, so that everyone could have some. Yep, plenty to go around. Thanks.

One-Pan Taco Dinner

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2012
I rated it 5 stars because I hate when someone changes a recipe and then gives it a low rating. I changed this recipe, so the 5 star rating is because it is a good "starting" point, and this recipe can be changed to taste. I added two packs of taco seasoning, I doubled the cheese and added it after I cooked the beef and rice. I also added a full can of corn, a 16 oz can of refried beans and a 16 oz can of diced tomatoes. It tastes just like Taco Bell's Southwest bowl, and you could also make this using shredded chicken breast. My husband had this mixture rolled up inside a burrito shell, and I topped mine with lettuce, sour cream and more cheddar. It made a TON, and I will freeze the leftovers so we can have quick burritos in a few weeks. We really enjoyed this. : )

Big B's Collard Greens

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2011
I used a full 2 lb. bag of greens from Walmart for this dish and cooked the greens for 2 hrs. I reduced red pepper flakes to 1 teaspoon, and I'm REALLY glad I did, because it would have been WAY too hot for us if I hadn't. If you add the full tablespoon and hot pepper sauce, I hope you like really spicey/hot food, cause that is what you're going to get. I added a few tablespoons of sugar because my greens were really bitter and the sugar helped with that. These were delicious, and next time I'm going to try it with smoked turkey instead of the ham hocks. Thanks Big B!

Strawberry Cheesecake

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2011
Very good! I didn't use the sweetened strawberries, I used frozen, whole strawberries, about 10 large strawberries, added 1/3 cup sugar, and pureed in the blender. This amount was plenty, and it seems to me that 2 (10 oz) packages of frozen strawberries would be more than what is needed for this recipe. It has a very nice "fresh" strawberry taste, and is restaurant quality. the finished product is visually appealing and tastes great. Thanks for sharing your recipe.

Death by Chocolate Mousse

Reviewed: Oct. 10, 2011
Wow..... This is really good. I didn't have the chocolate sandwich cookies, so I used Oreo cookies instead. I don't recommend this, the crust was too hard. Even with the tougher crust it was still a fabulous mousse. It is so light you don't realize how rich it is until you go for seconds, and then blam!, you have a chocolate overdose experience....but it didn't stop me :)

Mandarin Orange Cake I

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2011
This is good, what's not to like about cake and a yummy topping? But my problem with this cake, thus the reason for 4 stars, is that it doesn't have an orange flavor. I replaced the mandarin orange liquid, with straight orange juice and added 2 teas. of orange extract, and I still couldn't taste an orange flavor. I might as well of saved myself some money and omitted the mandarin oranges and extract, and just made the cake mix as is. I reduced oil to 1/2 cup. It tastes great, but that is because the topping is so good. Also, the topping isn't thick, so if you want a thicker icing, I would drain some of the liquid from the pineapple.

Peach Whirligigs

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2011
We liked this much more than peach cobbler. I followed the suggestions of others and reduced sugar to 1 cup and water to 1&1/2 cup and used 6 peaches instead of 5. 2 cups water would just make it too soupy and it was still sweet with just the one cup of sugar. This is really good, and I can't wait to try it with apples. Thanks for sharing your recipe, loved it.

Stewed Tomatoes (Gobbledygook)

Reviewed: Apr. 19, 2011
I wanted to see if stewed tomatoes are still as discusting as when my mother would force me to eat them as a child. To my surprise, I enjoyed this dish! my mother always used white bread, but I only had 12 grain bread on hand. I halved this recipe, and used only 1 tablespoon sugar. I really liked the 12 grain bread in this, I think I will always use it to make it a tad healthier. Thanks for sharing your recipe!

Lebanese Chicken and Potatoes

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2011
I like how easy this is to throw together. As another reviewer mentioned, if you use the breast part of the chicken, it will be dry. I added some chop onion for extra flavor.

Authentic Cincinnati Chili

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2011
I'm from the Cincinnati area and this is dead-on! The only changes I made was instead of allspice berries, used 1/4 teaspoon of ground allspice, and instead of whole cloves, used 1/4 teaspoon of ground cloves, and used 2 teaspoons of garlic powder instead of the garlic cloves. Loved it, we had it over spaghetti noodles with finely shredded cheddar cheese. Yum, this is going to be a regular menu item. Thanks for sharing

Best Brownies

Reviewed: Mar. 12, 2011
Thouht these were really good. I didn't make the icing for this recipe, I used another recipe from this site, "easy chocolate bundt cake glaze" because I had to use up some extra condensed milk I had. It was a great combination, very rich and chocolately. Thanks for sharing your recipe : )

Chocolate Covered Cherry Cookies II

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2011
I didn't bake the cookie with the icing, I piped it on using a baggie after the cookies were done. I got a lot of requests for the recipe. These are really good, if you like the chocolate cherry combo, you will love this cookie. Thanks for sharing.

Crusty French Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2011
Wow....nothin but good. I used my bread machine on the "dough" cycle to make this using rapid rise yeast. Took out ALL of the work. I let it rise in the machine, took it out, shaped it and let it rise until double, baked for 20 minutes. It was soooo good. I wish that white bread didn't make me fat......alas....I will only be able to make this once in awhile....

Pineapple Pie III

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2011
This pie was quick, easy, and inexpensive to make. Didn't change a thing. I used an 8" pie plate, I just don't see how this amount of filling is enough for a 9" pie. Even with using an 8", it wasn't overly full. Also, had to reduce oven temp. to 400, it browned very quickly, and it was done to perfection in 31 minutes. It was really good. Thanks for sharing your recipe : )
