American Shepherd's Pie

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2011
Always, always a hit, whether I'm at home or for pot luck. I never use celery or onion, just the veggies, for my kids' sakes. I cook a separate, smaller dish for my vegetarian, using her Morning Star crumbles, but both kids love it and go back for seconds every time.

Hamburger Steak with Onions and Gravy

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2011
I have to admit that I increase my sauce proportions with more beef bouillon and sherry, but otherwise I keep it the same. My daughter never tires of this dish!

Quick and easy, my kids eat it all every time without changing a thing!

Diane's Colcannon

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2011
Personally, I prefer leeks, but onions really are faster. I have a vegetarian, so we use fake bacon bits, which means cooking the cabbage differently, but this still came out beautifully and we've made it several times since we first found the recipe. It was even a hit at a pot luck in March.

Too Much Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2011
Great flavor, but even us chocoholics couldn't eat much because it was just too much chocolate. Never thought I'd say that!

Mom's Old Fashioned Fried Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2011
Another skeptic turned believer! This was absolutely delicious and a wonderful surprise. I use my own spices (Lawry's garlic salt, celery seed, black pepper and poultry seasoning) in my breading mix, but I cooked everything exactly the way it said. I cooked my vegetarian's Morning Star chicken tenders right in the sherry with the regular chicken and both kids asked for seconds. This recipe is a keeper!

Tex-Mex Turkey Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2009
Oh. My. Goodness! This is absolutely incredible! We made it after Thanksgiving, and my kids were devastated that I took it to work for lunch, instead of leaving it home while they were on break. The day after Christmas, they were asking me to make it again. I did use my own canned tomatoes instead of canned diced, but that's the only change I made. Even my picky-eater sister liked this one. Absolutely EXCELLENT!!!!

Basic Baked Spaghetti

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2007
Way too much spaghetti, or perhaps not nearly enough sauce? Nearly everyone enjoyed the dish at our potluck, but I used a full 26 oz of sauce, and still thought it a bit dry. I also used an entire 2-cup bag of finely shredded cheddar - one cup didn't even cover the top. Definitely going to break up the noodles next time, too - too long to work with if you don't!
